Announcement   Hello, friends.
The Christmas Sales have started. Minimum purchase is $26.00 for either sale - and you may only choose one: 1) Free Shipping domestic orders only. Coupon code is 2016christmassale3. 2) 20% off purchase (not shipping charges) of goods domestic and international. Coupon code is 2016christmassale4. Again, only one may be used per order. And, the soap dish special is still on and FREE with minimum 5 regular bar purchase. It will be automatically included with your order.

Purchases ship Tuesdays and Fridays.

You may have noticed some changes. Let me explain some of them.

Bath Soaps are now categorized into Green and Pink labels:

Pink denotes a fragrance and/or flavor oil of which I do not know the ingredients. So in soap, it is the fragrance; in lip balms, it is the flavor. These oils are trade secrets and I cannot know the ingredients that make them up.

Green denotes all ingredients are labeled. I can tell you exactly what is in them and why. They use essential oils or are fragrance free.

I cannot say one is all natural and one is not. Most flavor oils and some fragrance oils I use are all natural. I just cannot tell you every ingredient in the pink labeled products. This is mostly for my own use; and now you know why it is the way it is.

You may also notice a new Section: Seasonal Sale Items. These products are marked half price. And, once they are gone, they won't be back until next go around.

October through December, I am at my local farmer's market on Saturdays only. December 3rd is our 5th Annual Craft Show!

Need an order delivered by December 24? Here's how and when you should ship:

First Class Package Service: Dec 20

About

The Soap Lady

In 1994, someone introduces me to handmade goat milk soap. I use it In the shower and think “this is AWFUL”. I mean, terrible. It smells awful and doesn’t lather but is slimy, so I never notice what it may have done for my skin. Time passes and in 2004, I order two books wanting to learn a new craft. I order a book on melt and pour soap making and a book on candle making. I cannot master the art of matching the wick to the container, but I have a lot of fun with melt and pour soaps I learn to do from the book. However, the melt and pours do not last long enough for me. The bases are expensive and the bars last a few days in the shower. I am encouraged by several folks to try making lye soaps . My first recipe (palm, coconut, and olive oil) is borrowed from a local pamphlet about soap making. Whoo-boy, is that recipe wrong. I stir and stir that soap for 7 hours and it never traces. I finally pour it in a mold and cry. I go to the library a few days later and find a book on hot process soap making (Delores Boone). She also explains cold process and how to figure out your own recipe. I refigure that recipe I first used and it is 2 oz. too much lye (lye is measured by point one hundredth of an ounce in soap making). It was never going to be soap! So, the second soap I make is a pure olive oil soap called a Castile soap. I figure the amount of lye for myself and water and make that soap using a stick blender. It traces in about 15 minutes. I pop it in a mold to cure 4 weeks as I read to do. I make a couple more that month, but I am mostly waiting on the Castile soap to cure to see what kind of “soap” it is. Remember, I didn’t like hand made soaps in 1994. I grow herbs since 1989, so I make soap batches using herbal teas. It is finally time to try out the castile soap. I take it to the shower and when it bubbles up and soaps up, I cry (yes, again). I walk out of the shower all soaped up and show my significant other the beautiful suds!! This is what starts my business.

Since 2004, this is all I do. My significant other works and allows me to build a business with little hardship. Interestingly enough, I am all over the place and cannot seem to focus. I spend way more money trying new things than I did making what I find out works. I think I’m dallying with the idea but not focusing and creating a strong business. In 2011, I am now alone. If this business is my income, I need to focus. It is now 2016 and I continue to research and build on what works. I learn simple works best for me and mine, and so I work to create a simple yet strong and stable business. I still have a passion for soap making and I also find I enjoy running every aspect of a small business. In other words, I’m having fun!
