Perfect, my go-to lip balm. (I use it on cuts and spots for quick healing as well!)

About

The Soap Lady

After having received my Bachelors of Science degree in 2002, I thought my life was going in toward a counselor career. However, living in the boonies precludes many jobs for commute reasons alone. Simultaneously, I began menopause, hitting it wide open. My skin and hair began to suffer in ways I never imagined and commercial products of all types were not helping and some were making it worse.

I reopened my many herb books reading chapters I had only glossed over before. The chapters were on skin care. I've used herbs for decades - beginning with culinary herbs, then trying the herbs that make good tasting teas, then herbs that make medicinal teas, to herbs that help in medicinal ways. I think it is now time to study and apply skin care herbs.

My first soap was a disaster! It never traced and became soap. I used another's recipe, and it was lye heavy. But, what that mistake did for me was amazing, as I look back on it. I went nuts over learning everything there is to know about soap making from days of old to the present. I learned what oils do what in soap and skin care - two different things. I learned how to make and build my own recipes based on this knowledge. All my recipes are my own, and they produce great results.

My first salve was made in a pie dish with lard and dried herb macerated in the lard. I poured them into used but clean and sterilized baby food jars for skin complaints and joint pain - making these way before I began my business.

I put this all together in 2004. I had been making soap regularly for almost a year. I was making shampoo soaps before I knew they were popular and so began using all my own products on my own skin and hair. Skin and hair responded so well, I knew I had something special. So, I wanted everyone to have the same results and began selling my products at craft shows, festivals, and toward the end of that year, at the local Farmer's market.

Ten years later, everywhere I go I hear myself called "The Soap Lady". It wasn't something I set out to do, but it took me by storm when the opportunity presented itself. And, I wear it with pride!
