About SweetElvenChestnut

Sales 3,021
On Etsy since 2008

I am a free spirited very smiley metal artist

Many many years ago (2002) I bought a craft magazine, I didn't read the title, it was a wedding craft magazine. I wasn't getting married, nobody I knew was getting married but the urge to make something overcame taking it back (craft magazines are expensive!). So I flicked through and the only project I could attempt was a tiara, except mine was made using grey florist wire, some plastic beads from a drawer and a plastic headband. Depsite the eclectic materials it turned out ok and a few days later some friends saw it on the coffee table and asked about it. They thought it was good enough to make me go out and buy some proper materials and try my luck with bridal shops so I got to work...

After touting my wares around the local bridal shops I also had the idea of building a website, Sweet Chestnut Designs, this was in the very early days of the world wide web so I didn't have much hope. However the orders began to trickle in which was brilliant and I went on to win the very first coveted VOWS Award in Scotland, being voted by my customers as the Best Bridal Accessories Business.

Then in 2010 I decided to take a break to find a new creative direction after some time in the wilderness of rural Scotland I ended up learning the art of silversmithing at Glasgow School of Art, a place so inspiring you never want to leave! From there I took on a whole new style of work, I have no idea where it comes from but it is inspired by my early engineering background combined with being very intrigued by Elven, Medieval and Celtic styles, the rest just happens as I make something.

And that is my story so far.....
