The view off the back deck outside my sewing studio. Absolute paradise.

Working on cutting festival stock in the old days, before I even had an industrial serger.(2013, maybe?)

My bright, beautiful, tiny studio, circa 2018-ish. The same today, barring a few small updates.

Inspired by nature, designed for comfort.
Sylph began in 2010, with the goal of creating a line of comfortable, stylish clothing that you could move in, and that all fit together. I wanted to work in the most sustainable way, so using ecological fabrics and low impact dyes and inks was a must.
I used to spend most of my summer travelling to music festivals and craft shows. The pandemic definitely switched that up for a couple years, and selling online has become the most amazing blessing. But I headed back to a few music festivals in summer 2022, and it was the same magic I remember. I love getting to watch so many folks in my clothing, trying things on and looking awesome and sharing feedback. Seeing how designs work on different bodies, and hearing what women look for in their wardrobes, are some of the best learning experiences around. It's magic, I tell you, magic!
I live and work on a beautiful organic farm in Grey County, Ontario, Canada, on the traditional lands of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. I live here with my longtime partner (25 years in 2022!), one of the best humans I've ever met. He's a farmer and carpenter and lovely human being. We're surrounded by an amazing rural community of cool folks doing interesting things Lot's of organic farmers and beautiful food. We're so goddamned lucky (and so fucking privileged).
The environment, social justice, anti-racism; all of these things are major drivers in the way I try to exist in the world. Being human is hard. But we can do so much better! That's what I strive for.
(by the way, a sylph is a mythological spirit of the air. Which appeals to me on many levels. Movement through space... Also, birds are some of my favourite beings!)

I have many goals in the realm of environmental sustainability. Working with organic cotton thread, switching my sewn in labels to an organic option, finding more uses for the off-cuts of fabric that are invariably produced in garment manufacturing, making my fabric choices more and more sustainable and equitable… All of these and more are things I’m constantly thinking about and striving for.
Currently, the majority of my offerings are custom made to order, and have a 3-5 week turnaround time between order placement and shipping. Ready to ship items ship within 1-2 weeks (living in the country; a trip to the post office only happens every week or two at most).
All items are made in my beautiful on-farm studio in Grey County, Ontario, Canada, on the traditional lands of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation.
