Welcome to my shop! I'm so glad we've found each other.
I find so much joy and refuge in creating art – expressing my emotions about the events of my day or my love for my family and pets, and in just going to that calming, restful place where I can let things be. My goal is for every ounce of that good feeling to spill over into my art and into you when you wear it, or decorate with it, or share it with a friend.
I try to let go of any need for perfection and just follow my intuitive impulses when I am painting, letting them lead me to a totally unique expression every time. It still amazes me when the blank silk or canvas I am working on magically opens into a new vista and becomes itself.

5 out of 5 starsGot this for a good friend of mine for her birthday; it was in two days and Sylvia was able to ship it via priority express mail and made it just in time! The scarf itself was beautiful and my friend absolutely loved it.

Be Good to Yourself
My journey into the arts began more than twenty years ago. All of my children were still little at the time, and my youngest son, Sean was born autistic. School was particularly difficult for him, in its social aspects and in the need for focus. Searching for a channel for him to express his emotions, I enrolling him in art classes. The difference was immediate – he was focused and content when making art. The calming influence making art had on Sean became an important factor in setting me on my own artistic path. I signed up for my first art class and found my own outlet for self-expression. I had always thought that some people were born with artistic talent and others weren’t. I hadn’t realized that with passion, dedication and effort, anything can be learned and developed. Just find the courage to start! Be good to yourself and follow your heart.
Many years and many classes later, I am still on my path to mastery. I never let a day go by without drawing or painting, trying to better my skills and more clearly express my emotions through art. So be inspired! As Goethe said, “What you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.” I am now living my dream of being a full time working artist. I hope that the work that brings me so much joy spills over into you when you wear it, or decorate with it, or share it with friends. And Sean, by the way, grew up to be a successful and thriving potter.

Owner, Maker, Designer
Sylvia Gray is a painter, printmaker, and textile artist, working professionally for over twenty years. During that time, she has developed an expressionistic style that defines her work, and brings emotion and warmth to each piece she creates.
Shop policies
Scarves are made of a variety of different silk weights and hands, including crepe, charmeuse, habotai, chiffon, and velvet; in addition, some are made of a rayon silk blend or cotton. I use professional grade silk dyes, steaming and heat setting as necessary, to create bold and brilliant ever-lasting color.
All scarves can be either hand-washed in a mild detergent and hung to dry, or simply dry cleaned. I sign each piece before it leaves my studio and include washing instructions with every scarf.
Recently I have started posting my original oil paintings, encaustics, and hand-pulled prints. Each of these is also a one of a kind original. All paintings are painted on canvas board, which is a firm surface that will easily pop into a basic, standard sized frame, unless otherwise listed in the item description (just a few come ready to hang, no framing needed). Prints come with a mat that will also fit into a standard size frame. If there's a piece you'd like to purchase and have framed, please contact me for framing and shipping costs.
