Geisha Inspired Textile Jewellery, Fabric Origami

Takara Crafts is a brand that represents unique designs, intricate craftsmanship, and vibrant colours. Our products include jewellery, hair accessories, and framed artwork. The main subjects of our craft include flowers and birds. All products are handmade using a Japanese traditional craft named “Tsumami-zaiku”, which is also known as “Kanzashi” in the Western world. The craft of Kanzashi was originated in the Edo era for creating elaborate headpieces for Maikos (apprentice Geisha). It uses small, folded pieces of fabric to form various objects, usually flowers. It is deeply connected to nature and the change of seasons, as Maikos use their headpieces to display seasonal plants that match the corresponding time of year. We want to recreate and show the transient beauty of nature, and the painstaking craft of Kanzashi allow us to achieve delicate designs which can do just that.

Despite putting our heart and soul into a traditional craft, we aim to bring new elements to our designs and to incorporate new ideas to form new products. Apart from recreating classic patterns such as chrysanthemum and cherry blossom, we have come up with new patterns such as Yorkshire rose, four-leaf clover, and angel wing. We have also incorporated celestial objects such as the moon and star constellations into our frame artworks. We hope our approach to Kanzashi can elevate the craft into a widely recognised art form and make it more accessible to the public in Britain.
