Unpredictable experiments lead to the most interesting results.
I have an undying obsession for processes that involve systems and repetition. This comes from my background in printmaking, but bookbinding and ceramics have allowed me to combine my love for traditional methods, drawing, and layering over the years into functional goods that can tell a story and inspire.
I notice patterns and textures from my surroundings and enjoy repeating and merging these snapshots through drawing. The objects act as a canvas for pattern drawings — and usually begin as a playful dialogue of combining new materials and techniques.
I was lucky to inherit an electric kiln last year, which pushed me to explore ceramics beyond the few courses I took in undergrad. I immediately found the tangible nature of hand building with clay to be the perfect contrast to my daytime work as a pixel pushing graphic and web designer. Repetition and messy hands are the perfect catalyst for clearing my mind and sparking new ideas.
