Where do I start? This purchase has been the single best experience I've ever had on etsy. I messaged Tanya hoping she could make a custom sized top for me. And lo and behold she could, and before my event I needed it for. Not only did she make a custom listing for me, she gave me regular updates and pictures of the process. She shipped the item quickly as well. When I got the item I was so excited. I opened the package to find two cute little stickers and pins inside the box as well as a handwritten note about wash care and what to do if I'm not totally satisfied, which is insane as I couldn't be happier. The top fits well, it's beautifull made, and I would definitely recommend it to others.
For The Exceptional Misfits of the World, Without Whom the Earth Would be a Far Less Colourful Place
This shop was originally opened in 2009 as a beginning outlet for my blossoming creativity, and it marked the beginning of my creative entrepreneurialism. When the shop first opened it was under a different name, and I was a different person. As I have grown and changed, so has the shop.
In 2011, I went back to school. I took a 2 year program at a local art school with dreams of entering the fashion world. I knew full well that school was going to be difficult, but after uprooting my entire personal life and flipping it on its head, while moving to a new city where I only knew my sister, I was ready for the challenge. I'm glad I didn't know what I was in for, I don't know if I would have applied had I known just how hard it would be.
It seems that despite the initial enthusiasm from the admissions rep, wanting to be a designer of alternative fashion was not encouraged by the instructors. I had to do constant research and convincing that I knew my market, and that this WAS the market I wanted to be in. I was told I'd fail. One instructor told me that she was considering failing me in her class because she didn't like my designs.
I cried. A lot. And I fought back with everything I had that hadn't already been exhausted by a terrible work situation, a relationship that was sucking the life out of me, and course load from all my other classes.
I graduated. With honours. And I became the first fashion design student to ever be chosen as valedictorian. And that same fall I was not only accepted as a designer at Vancouver Alternative Fashion Week[end], but named "Most Promising Student Designer."
