About

Urban girl makes the jump to rural Eastern Kentucky, discovers clay, finds her true nature.

My shop started with my beginnings in pottery. That started with my BFA from Eastern Kentucky University. I concentrate on two directions to keep me on my toes. I make fine art sculpture in clay and natural materials and I also make pottery that I sell here on Etsy. My work focuses on organic textures and primal marks. I am fascinated with our origins, prehistorically and biologically.
I work out of my studio on my farm using an electric kiln but I also maintain ties with fellow potters in Irvine, Kentucky just south and east of Lexington in prime horse country. This allows me to indulge in wood and salt-firings from time to time; great community events with some fantastic pots! I use both stoneware and a stoneware/porcelain mix for my clay body. I love carving, marking and textures. I cannot help but inject my weird and quirky nature into my pieces along with my dry sense of humor from time to time. I hope you enjoy it, too!

I grew up just north of New York City. Clay was the last thing on my path, or so I thought. I moved to rural Eastern Kentucky in 1998 and changed my career from graphic design to fine art. I delved into clay and it's been a blast ever since!

Shop policies

Last updated on January 5, 2017
This is an explanation of my policies for the items I produce for Tea Horse Studio. If you have any questions, convo me. I throw or handbuild my pieces in stoneware and stoneware mix clay. They are generally fired Cone 6 oxidation (meaning I use an electric kiln). Having said that, I periodically do have access to higher fire (Cone 10) atmospheric kilns (gas or wood-fired) including an Anagama, Phoenix and salt kilns so sometimes I'll mix my methods. All my pieces, unless marked otherwise, are vitrified and will hold water. All ceramic pieces should be dishwasher safe but I make no guarantees about microwave-ability since there are too many variables in clay and glaze recipes to predict how a piece will fare in the microwave. I work very hard at using food-safe glazes and do not use barium-based or lead glazes or clay bodies in anything that comes in contact with food. I'm less worried about items that are not food-based.

Payment
Unfortunately, I cannot take personal checks but I do take payments through Etsy's Direct Checkout service (quick and easy!), PayPal and all the major credit cards that PayPal services. You do not have to have a PayPal account to pay with a credit card, just choose the PayPal option and then choose the "pay by credit card" link. If full payment is not received within 7 days, the transaction will be cancelled.
Sales within Kentucky have a 6% sales tax added to the price.

Any shipping via FedEx or UPS, insurance, registered mail and other special services will be invoiced via PayPal and must be paid in advance prior to shipping.
Shipping
Pottery is bulky. I ship sales from Etsy to the USA and Canada ONLY due to exorbitant international shipping rates. Upon checkout and payment, items generally will be shipped within 1-3 working days. I ship USPS First Class or Priority within the USA and to Canada as it's the most cost effective and convenient to me here in the sticks. Signature conformation is added to all items for tracking purposes. Minimum $50 insurance is automatically added to USPS Priority and additional insurance is added as needed depending on the value of the item purchased. Shipping prices are for USPS shipped items within the continental US ONLY. Shipping prices generally cover shipping and packaging costs for the Continental US under 4lbs; Alaska and Hawaii shipping prices are higher.

International shipping to Canada is by USPS First Class International. International Priority costs more. Please convo me if you want that prior to purchase. The buyer is responsible for any import tariffs or taxes on international items. The Customs number will be provided as the only tracking. If additional tracking is needed, an additional $12 will be charged for registered mail, invoiced via PayPal. [No package will be shipped without this payment if registered mail is needed.] Shipping times vary from country to country but please allow at the very least up to 6 weeks for any delays in customs or shipping to the final destination.

Because of exorbitant international shipping rates for pottery, shipping outside Canada (Australia, New Zealand, the EU and elsewhere) must be arranged ahead of time via convo so I can calculate the actual shipping and make sure the postage and insurance is agreed upon and prepaid. The default for shipping will be USPS Priority Mail unless otherwise indicated and all shipping must be paid ahead of actual shipment.

International buyers are responsible for any import tariffs or taxes on international items. Shipping outside the US may take an additional days to arrive due to customs. I have no control over this unfortunately, and in some instances, packages will be held for weeks before they get released by customs. Shipping times vary from country to country but please allow up to 6 weeks for any delays in customs or shipping to the final destination.

International sales are FINAL unless breakage occurs in shipping. I require 2-3 digital images of any broken item(s) and images of the original packaging within 7 business days of receipt of the item for insurance claim purposes. Items received broken may request a refund for the original cost of the item upon verification of breakage. No claims of breakage and requests for refunds can be claimed after this 7 business day period. Multiple items weighing over 4lbs and all other special shipping questions, convo me for more information about the projected shipping price.

All items are carefully packed in recycled, repurposed material to lower costs whenever possible. I try to use biodegradable products whenever possible.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you are not happy with the piece you purchased, return it within 7 business days of receipt, unbroken, in the original shipping container for a refund of the original cost. Lost items or items that arrive broken can be returned within 7 business days and must be accompanied by proper USPS documentation for exchange or refund and insurance claims. If, for some reason, it is longer than 7 business days but less than 14 business days after receipt of the item, you must convo me first. Returns not accepted after 21 business days of receipt.

International sales are not eligible for a refund unless breakage occurs and if that is the case, you must ship the broken piece back or provide accurate digital visual confirmation of breakage (in other words, email 2-3 images of the breakage and packaging as it was delivered to you within 7 business days of receipt) for a refund of the original cost of the item.
Additional policies and FAQs
Wholesale orders within the USA gratefully accepted. Wholesale prices available upon request. You must provide resale certificate prior to order being shipped. Minimum order $400 of merchandise. Payments made via PayPal at time of shipment. No net 30 or invoicing without credit check. Shipping, handling, insurance and tracking extra. Pre-orders take up to 4-7 weeks to produce and ship. Wood-fired and soda fired items are limited and cannot be pre-ordered at this time but I hope to build a wood-fired soda kiln at Tea Horse Studio in the future so hopefully, this will change soon. Resale certificates are required up front!! Convo me to discuss the particulars. Wholesale requests outside the USA, please convo me.

I reserve the right to tweak these policies as needed :)
