the attic and whence it came

autumn attic was born in Cambridge, UK but this was not where it all began...

Once upon a time in a land much further north, where the winds are chilly and the rain beats hard there was a shy girl with a dream. She hoped to one day become something extraordinary. What she didn't know was that she already was.....

Her Father and Nan taught her the very first, essential stitches she needed to begin her work. They were rather poor back then and had to make things last till their end.
By the time she was old enough to know her dream she was given her first sewing machine (on loan from her step mum)..... and began to create things. The first and natural path, and one she always comes back to was re-working old clothing into newer shapes and fits.
Despite all the onlookers saying "you have to have a degree in something to be able to makeit a success" the girl carried on stitching how she pleased and made some pretty bloody funky stuff.
She broke all the rules about finishing garments and combining fabrics, often reveling in the blunders she thought she had made when they turned out to be the best textured thing since sliced bread.
Life is but a journey full of beautiful mistakes and absolute chaos. So why go against the grain?

Many sewing machines later.....

Autumn Attic is a place where you will find items to adorn yourself with. The style is ever changing like the weather so don't get too settled in. They prefer to use found, vintage, rare material and recycled upholstery fabrics. Sometimes they need to get backing fabrics and other such wares.. but wherever possible, fabric is locally and ethically sourced.

Most of the waste fabric is re-used for accessories, tails and ears or sometimes even used for tufting or stuffing special things.
