How do I avoid color bleeding?
Unless you are making your own clothes or dying your own clothes it’s difficult to know much about the dye used on your clothing items.

With that said, there are a few best practices you can follow regardless of they type of dye to limit your chances of experiencing color bleeding on your next laundry day.

Always separate lights and darks. This is a mandatory practice at Rinse but you may be surprised to know that many people at home overlook this important step when doing their own laundry.
Use a color fixative such as Retayne or Raycafix on your clothes pre-wash to help prevent color transfer.
Use cold water over hot water when washing. Hot water can loosen up the fabric and increase the likelihood of color bleeding.
When possible, adjust your washer settings to delicate or something similar to reduce the amount of friction inside the washing machine.
Add color catcher sheets to the machine to help catch and hold dyes during washing.
Turn your clothes inside out to reduce both color fading and color bleeding.
As you can see there are several steps you can take to help reduce the chances of color bleeding. By implementing these basic tips you’ll not only limit color bleeding but improve the lifespan of your clothes or fabric.

I sell mostly vintage chenille lots. The lots contain vintage bedspread chenille and from time to time totally cool fabric and embroidered or appliqued squares.

I am what they call a chenilleaholic. Love the stuff and it makes such cool quilts. I have also used them to make decoupage jeans. I often do embroidery and applique squares to go with my chenille diy quilt kits. But that doesn't mean that you can't use my chenille lots for other things like handbags, rag purses let your imagination run wild.

Just a note my chenille lots contain a lot of high quality pricey chenille (I don't add fillers what some call a junk chenille) this is why sometimes my lots are a little higher priced. I use only name brand chenille, like Hofmann (great daisy star and retro patterns mostly white on a color), Cabin Crafts by Martex (squiggles, ripples, and great uncut needltufts), and the ever so popular Morgan Jones (rosebuds, silver lurex popcorn's and this manufacturer makes the best popcorn's and buttonholes around), the last of the great Chenille Bedspread manufacturers is Bates, they also have great woven bedspreads.

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
This is long, but I must go into this in order to explain to you how I wash my items. This is not fail safe and does not guarantee how your product will come out. People use different detergent, and water settings when washing their items. Sorry, but on that note I can't be responsible for the outcome. I have had only two complaints on items bleeding. I did a custom order for a lady that had many many different color squares in her order. The person sewing the quilt for her decided to wash it and did not wash according to directions and some of the darks bled. Because of that left negative feedback saying that some of my squares had been dyed. (they weren't by me). I will tell you if any of my fabric or squares is dyed by me.

Wash in cold water, which keeps fibers closed, trapping dye inside. Warm water opens fibers and sets dye free. Many detergents work well in any water temperature, and using cold water also saves money.
Wash clothes using the permanent press or gentle setting, which are easier on your laundry than regular cycles.
Don’t overfill your washer or pack clothes into the washer. Not only will they come out cleaner, clothing also will be exposed to less friction.
Add 1 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle and/or one-half cup salt to the wash to help hold in colors. (for reds, dark blues and dark greens, and also blacks I use 1 cup of Salt in wash water and 1 cup of Vinegar in the rinse cycle with lots of color catchers on these colors)
Use color-catcher sheets, which trap extraneous dyes during the wash cycle to prevent bleeding.
Don’t overstuff your dryer. Clothes will dry faster.
If line drying outside, remove clothes as soon as they’re dry to minimize UV exposure.
In most cases, clothing will stop releasing dye after a few washes. But, its best to continue using these tips to minimize bleeding and fading so you can feel good using or wearing those dark jet-black, reds, green, and blues time and again.
If I think any of your fabrics might bleed then I will put the directions for washing guidelines, and a shout color catcher in your order. They are great! used to collect the color displaced in the water from the bleed, and if you wash properly. (Cold wash, a Non chlorine soap no oxyclean or non-chlorine bleach substitute; even some detergents are to harsh for fabric, Tide being one of them. Even if you are washing a baby quilt make sure you fill the washing tub to the highest level, this is how the color catchers work. They will not work well with a small amount of water.) I have never had a problem if the items are washed in this way. But on that note I can't be responsible on how you wash your item nor will any other fabric store. People wash things with different detergents and settings and I can't be responsible for how it turns out.

I strive for customer service and don't want anyone to be unhappy, but some people you just can't please. So please follow washing instructions that you receive with your order and you shouldn't have any problems.
