Announcement
Celebrating my 16th year on Etsy. I crochet hats for adults: crochet newsboy hats, crochet berets, crochet and knit slouchy hats, crochet earflap hats, create your own matching hat and circle scarves, various gay pride items and crochet hat patterns. Every stitch in every item is hand made by me.
On September 15, 2016 I was an audience member for Harry Connick, Jr.'s new show Harry, because I crocheted a hat in the audience holding area. See a snippet of what happened. https://www.facebook.com/harryconnickjr/videos/10154423774015539/ Sorry the link is not clickable.

Showing Harry Connick, Jr. the hat I made while waiting in the audience holding area. Hat was auctioned for Louisiana.
It all changed at the end of December 2005
I really wish I could remember how I first heard about Etsy. Nobody knew about it when I joined, so I can't imagine who told me about it, or what possessed me to sign up. I was a crocheter and knitter at the time, and had so much stuff already made that I didn't know what to do with, and I think I just wanted an outlet to sell the stuff I was making, because I was going to make it anyway.
On September 15, 2016 I was an audience member at Harry Connick, Jr.'s new talk show "Harry." But because I crocheted a hat while in the audience holding room, I got to be interviewed on the show, and my hat ended up being auctioned off to raise funds for the floods in Louisiana. The final auction bid was $1,025. How amazing is that? The whole thing was an absolute blast and I'm so honored and touched that my hat raised money for such a good cause. You can see a snippet of the show here: https://www.facebook.com/harryconnickjr/videos/10154423774015539/.
My real love though is theater. I love to perform and I've been fairly successful at it at times. Sometimes I think that if I spent as much time on my career as I do on my Etsy business I might actually have a career. But at the moment Etsy is giving back more than my career is, so for now, I'm dedicating more time to being here.
I do most of my crocheting on my commute. I take a glorious express bus ride into Manhattan many times a week and I am with iPad usually watching the previous night's Rachel Maddow show and crocheting. It's heaven for me, except when the person behind me is talking on their cellphone. I love being so productive on my commute, and it keeps me from getting impatient when we're sitting in traffic.
My beautiful one bedroom apartment looks like a yarn store exploded in it. There is yarn everywhere. I have a huge yarn closet, but that's not nearly enough for my stash. It's a little bit ridiculous. I really try to use the stuff I already have, but there are so many amazing yarns out there, and sometimes when you're away from home, and you see something, you just have to have it. You know what I mean?
Thanks so much for reading. I would love it if you would check out my little shop: http://tepperwear.etsy.com

Who knew when I joined Etsy at the end of 2005 it, and crochet, would become such an important part of my life. I do this as a hobby, but I take my craft and my little business very seriously.

Frequently asked questions
Can you add a lining to my hat?
I'm afraid not. For one thing I don't sew, and for another, my items are not tightly knit/crocheted. Even if I did sew, attaching a lining to a chunky knit item just wouldn't work.
