unfortunately, water is natural enemy of leather. leather is a porous material that wants to wick up water. you can get away with a little rain, a few splashes, maybe one or 2 quick accidental submersion.
leathers porous nature will absorb water and warp the shape, gradually erase the lettering tooling, alter the color/dye....ultimately you will end up with a stiff, ugly and stinky leather collar.

im sure you can find a lot people on etsy that will tell you otherwise to get a sale out of you. Please take my word for it :)

I have a water dog too, she has ruined a lot of collars even after I have sealed them 'waterproof' sealants.

I do not stamp the phone number directly into the leather for a few reasons, there isn't much space with the tooling & lettering without becoming a bit busy looking, & in my experience, the small numbers become illegible in a short amount of ruff and tumble.

I make collars for growing dogs a lot. I usually make the first hole the measurement given, leaving the remaining holes to adjust up (4-5 holes) I obviously cannot guarantee you dog will not outgrow their collar, I cannot guess what a growing dog's neck size will be when they are full grown. even if the snuggest adjustment hole is their current neck size.
at checkout, simply let me know your dog needs room to grow, and you would like the first hole to be the tightest. (there will be a 'note to seller' box at checkout to leave me your dog's name and any other info)
