Laura is incredibly talented and was so easy and reasonable to work with for our custom order. Her commitment to perfection, willingness to seek feedback, and progress updates were so helpful and reassuring and ultimately yielded something we will treasure on our wedding cake and for years to come!

What's cuter than a Freature? A Freature holding three adorable kittens, that's what! I own several of these unique Freatures and each time I'm always pleased with the quality of the work and attention to detail. Everyone needs a Freature in their home (I think they keep the monsters away)!

About

Who are the Freatures?

The Freatures started at my mom's kitchen table. I had just been through a terrible breakup and couldn't eat or sleep (the cliche of heartbreak is true), so I thought I'd forage for art supplies to keep myself off the couch. In a dusty bin in the back of her pantry, I found a box of polymer clay.

The first Freature began with a small lump of gray clay. I squished it between my fingers, rolled it into a ball, and started shaping arms, legs, and a head. I used a toothpick to form fingers and toes, and gave him droopy ears, a mopey mouth, sad eyes...and a belly button.

Before putting my Freature into the oven to harden, I carefully bent his arms so that his hands were placed over his heart. After he had cooled, I applied a drop of clear glaze for a tear streaming down his cheek.

That heartbroken Freature was made from my own feelings at the time. I realized that these little creatures could represent feelings, ideas, and more. The inspiration for them is truly endless! Whether they serve as a reminder, give comfort, or make people laugh, I want to send them out into the world and share them with others.

As it goes, my heart healed and I met my wonderful husband a short while later. We have two tenacious boys, Kohen and Frankie, who keep us laughing and running around. Kohen loves thinking up ideas for Freatures, and Frankie loves testing their durability and poking them in their eyes. Boys.
