About

going green

Green stands for sustainable products and FLY are my kids - Finn, Luke and Yona. Just like you, I am a parent that wants a clean and safe environment for our children. Reducing waste and toxins are part of that. I try to eliminate plastics containing phthalates and BPAs from our home. Making nylon-lined snack/sandwich bags and wraps is my hobby and helps me reach the goals above. Please contact me with questions and product ideas. I take custom orders as well.
Thanks for supporting local hand craft and sustainable products!

P.S. In case you are wondering about the few sales on Etsy: I do most of my sales locally - at local fairs and markets as well as in 4 South Lake Tahoe stores: Gaialicious, the Tot Spot, Tot-to-Tot, and the Trunk Show in Tahoe City. I have also done fundraisers for schools, co-ops, and non-profits. Contact me with your ideas and we'll make it happen!

P.P.S. The green fly in my logo represents the "green lacewing" which is not a nasty old flesh fly but a very useful and pretty insect used for biological pest-control. Design by German artist Mona Dahmen.

FAQs
Are your snack bags waterproof?
I recently switched from cotton and nylon products to making my items out of ecoPUL (see more below). The items are now only a single-layer fabric but therefore extremely light-weight and keep longer fresh. I wouldn't put anything liquid such as apple sauce in my bags but apple slices or messy P&J sandwiches are fine!

Is Eco-PUL™ food-safe?
For ages there have been debates whether or not PUL (Polyurethane Laminate) is food-safe. PUL fabric by Eco-PUL™ is made with a "green" adhesive that is solvent-free, environmentally friendly, and releases no volatile organics.

From the manufacturer: "EcoPUL™ is food safe. PUL fabric by Eco-PUL™ has been tested and found free from lead, phthalates, and BPA. Eco-PUL™ complies with FDA regulations 21 CFR 177.1680 and 177.2600 and therefore can be used in direct and indirect food contact applications, as well as potable water under NSF61."

Can I wash the snack bags and sandwich wraps?
You can put thegreenFLY items in the laundry or wash them with your dishes. I personally use only warm water and only accidentally dry them in the dryer as I believe that it will prolong the life of the items. If you hang the items or lay them on the counter, they will dry in no time.

However, the Eco-PUL™ manufacturer says that the "fabric is washable in hot water in commercial or home laundry. It resists abrasion, is UV stable (is not affected by sunlight), fire retardant, and anti-microbial."
