About

Learner. Sewer. Creative Thinker. Wife. Mother.

One of my favorite parts about sewing is the experience of learning something new! When I was six months pregnant with my first child, my husband and I moved to a new city. Bored, and a little lonely, I finally pulled out my sewing machine. I have always wanted to learn but had never done much more than sew a slightly-out-of-whack pillow. Encouraged by my sister, who bought me a pattern to sew baby shoes, I began to sew. The first attempts were rough, but I enjoyed the process of learning. Every time I made a mistake, I learned something from it, and the next pair of baby shoes turned out a little bit better.

Eventually I started to have quite the stack of adorable little baby shoes. One day my husband wondered out loud, "How many pairs of baby shoes do you think our little guy needs?!" and I decided to open an Etsy shop to share the love around! Our last name is Berry, and as our little family was expanding, "Little Berry Patch" seemed a fitting name.

When our second child, a daughter, arrived, I decided I wanted to learn to sew leggings. I learned so much about different fabrics, and needles, and thread and different stitches through trial and error, and developed a pattern that I felt confident and proud of! I also loved the look of top knot headbands and wanted to design them with my own fabric choices. My sister, Tara Put, had begun to design fabrics and I was delighted that my daughter could wear leggings with designs from her Auntie, and sewn by her Mom!

When I choose fabric designs, I am inspired by the emotions the fabric evoke. I love cheerful fabrics, or bright and loud fabrics, or fabrics that make me feel whimsical or nostalgic! The organic cotton knit quickly became a favorite fabric, because although challenging to work with, it is ultra soft and feels super luxurious.

I am often a nap time sewer, sewing when my youngest is down for her nap. I usually sew at my dining room table, a big harvest table made from the forest behind my husband's childhood home. Sewing feeds my need to be creative and my love of learning! I love sewing up clothing for customers, and seeing all the different places I send them off to and imagining people's excitement when their package arrives!
