Announcement    The Beefy Chicken offers hand stitched embroidery and mixed media art. Each piece is one of a kind, and I am continually working to add new pieces to the shop.

With each embroidery hoop being one of a kind, most take many hours to complete. Every stitch is done by hand - not to mention all of the sketches, decisions, and tangled thread that go into the process. The finished piece you see comes from the creative process of a human being. Let's keep the creativity going!

* No longer accepting custom orders - sorry! *

About

Uhh...What's a Beefy Chicken?

The Chicken:
The Beefy Chicken - guardian of the land of whimsy, advocate for the contradictory, and lover of our beautifully imperfect world. At one time, when I was younger and only slightly more silly, The Beefy Chicken was born out of my strange sense of humor. Bored in study hall, I was drawing beefy arms on random creatures and objects (as one does) and BOOM, The Beefy Chicken was born. I loved the contradiction. It soon became my mascot as I continued drawing it on any blank chalkboard or notebook cover I got my hands on. It seemed only natural that The Beefy Chicken should be the mascot of my creative endeavors, and it serves as a constant reminder to not take things so seriously.

The Art:
Growing up, I was always a crafty kid, getting lost in whatever project I could get my hands on at the time. I saw the creative potential in any physical object lying around. I loved seeing the finished product come together and knowing that I brought it to life. I eventually fell in love with sewing of all kinds and volunteered my skills for theatre groups, friends, and family.
While studying art in college, I finally tried hand embroidery. It was perfect, combining my love of art and color with my love of sewing and textiles. My embroidery art pieces emerge out of this love of combinations. I draw much of my inspiration from nature, texture, and color combinations. But there are always those random "just for fun" pieces to keep things interesting and personal. :)

The Materials:
I use a mixture of new and old materials, generally working with what I have on hand before purchasing specific colors/patterns. I was raised with the sense that nothing should go to waste, and I've transferred that sentiment to my art. I use a lot of fabric scraps and remnants, giving new life to what otherwise would have been considered trash. For this reason, specific sources and fiber content are often unknown. I do, however, use 100% cotton DMC embroidery floss for almost all of my stitching.

Thanks for stopping by! Feel free to contact me with any questions. :)
