Announcement   Hello, my shop will have a new collection of pieces and Christmas 'meganess' on Wednesday 7th December at 7.30pm.

Welcome to the cat in the shoe a marvel of hand-made creatures and curiosities.

A world of imagination and possibility expressed through the medium of repurposed materials. Stitched stuffed and embellished by hand.

The cat in the shoe is the creation of Lucy Brasher a self taught textiles artist based in Dorset by the sea, trained in fine art and photography, she found a love for textiles.
'Fabric is a forgiving and flexible medium to work with, it can become anything it wishes even though it began it's life as something else. An old jumper, an unloved leather jacket, a scrap of lace and an offcut of felt. In my mind these could become a whimsical being straight from the pages of a book you read as a child.'

For more information on the cat in the shoe and Lucy's current projects please visit www.thecatintheshoe.com you can also follow the cat in the shoe on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram for regular updates.

Lucy's moon dolls are so very unique and beautifully crafted. I love all the attention she puts in to every detail, including the back and especially those shoes! From the handmade bag to the wonderfully wrapped package, you can tell how much love she puts into every piece she creates.

About

the curious world of the cat in the shoe

I am completely self taught. Having studied fine art and photography at Degree level I soon realised that this wasn't for me.
The need to create was still there though and it took a move to London and a brief unemployment spell for me to realise how I was going to express my creativity.

Fabric is a forgiving and flexible media to work with, it can become anything it wishes even if it began its life as something else, An old jumper, an unloved leather jacket, a scrap of lace and an off cut of felt. In my mind these could be a creature, a whimsical being straight from the pages of a book you read as a child.

A world of imagination and possibility.

Each piece is completely hand made by me, I create the patterns and then sew using my very old industrial Singer that I have moved from London back to Dorset with me, from house to storage to bungalow to flat (its well traveled). Or I stitch by hand, it depends on the size of the piece and the detail needed. The tiny leather shoes for example are always hand stitched.

Sometimes the fabric inspires the piece and sometimes I get an idea in my head and I can't rest until it is made and I have trawled the charity shops and fabric shops for the perfect material.

I work a lot to commission and love to hear your ideas and wants for a piece. My facebook page is full of images of my work and pieces I have created as commissions.

I have sold at Rengade Craft fair London, Craftacular London, Etsy Dorset and various local events. I have pieces for sale in the Art Gallery of Ontario Canada, I have also been featured in Stuffed Magazine and various blogs.

Please do bare in mind that these creations are textile art pieces and are not sold as toys for small children, as they are hand made and they cannot endure a lot of vigourous play.

I am a self taught textile sculptor creating individual pieces from reclaimed and re- purposed fabrics. My work focuses mainly on the animal form incorporating the human element. My pieces have a touch of whimsy with a darker undertone much like the fables and folklore that have influenced them.

Please do bare in mind that these creations are textile art pieces and are not sold as toys for small children, as they are hand made and they cannot endure a lot of vigourous play.

Custom Orders: For all Custom orders I ask for a 50% deposit to be paid on ordering. The remaining 50% plus postage will be invoiced once the piece/pieces are made to the deadline we have agreed.
