I'm Joan Gibson, The Closet Potter. I am thrilled that you are checking out my Etsy Shop. Anything that you see listed, will ship out the same day if the post office is open.

CUSTOM ORDERS

I cannot take on custom orders as I am still recovering from a major surgery and only work part time. I don't like the idea of you having to wait a long time for your item.

If you would like to be notified when I post my new wares, please send me your e-mail address and I will be happy to do that.

About

A Cancer Survivor Living Her Passion

I have only been able to do pottery at a steady pace for a few years now. I started in late 2012 to work at a clay studio that rents out space. It is very difficult for me to do this craft unless it is in my home. Clay lets you know when it needs attention and it needs it right then. If you are not there, it will get too dry and you can't work with it.

Towards the end of 2013, we transformed a big closet into a studio. The photo is taken shortly after we set it up. That's where the name, The Closet Potter, came from.

I started my love of pottery making in 1976. That story is in my bio. Had I had the courage to just do pottery for a living at that time, I would be a master potter by now. I thought I had to work a "real" job. Silly me. So now I am 68 yrs. old and having a ball! If it wasn't for pottery, I would be going crazy. I am a person who must be doing something all the time.

I get such a thrill when someone purchases my work. I am still at that stage where I can't believe they chose one of my pieces with the thousands of wonderful potters on Etsy. I hope you can feel the love that I put into it and you enjoy using it.

Shortly after I had my own studio with all the equipment that I needed, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. So, ALL of 2013 was devoted to doctors and chemo. I caught it in a somewhat early stage. I beg all women to get their mammograms! Had I not had annual mammograms, I may not have made it.

Ray is my dear sweet husband. I hired him as Shipping Manager. Actually it's kind of a joke but without him, none of this would have happened. He is definitely the wings beneath my feet.

You can see how cute he is in my profile photo.

Welcome to the Closet! The Closet Potter Shop that is. Please look around. I am finally working again after Major Back Surgery. Wish I could work more hours but I must be patient, as the doctor keeps telling me. I am working on Mini Kerosine Lanterns right now so stay posted. I did tons of large ones in the 80's but not since. I'm very excited about them, as well as the tons of other new ideas that are floating in my head. Good thing I write them all down so I don't forget when I get back up to speed. Please stay tuned!!!
