About

Dreaming in Beads

Some time around a decade ago I made a wonderful discovery. At the time I was spending a fair bit of dosh on beaded jewellery from over priced high-street retailers, a lot of which turned out to be cheaply made and breakable, despite the hefty price-tag.

One serendipitous afternoon I was browsing the depths of the interwebs when I came across an article outlining the basic principals of wire jewellery making. Very soon I had ordered the very first seeds of The Bead Hoard - cheap Czech glass druks in various sizes, snazzy little Miyuki cubes and luxurious Swarovski crystals. I enjoyed making long basic loop chains at first, then moved on to slightly more complicated designs in bright colours with plenty of movement and sparkle.

Over the years my style has developed and The Bead Hoard has expanded exponentially! I love to work with gemstones - most definitely a continuation of the geological fascination of my childhood. The range of colours, textures and luminescent qualities produced deep within the Earth is astounding and a pure joy to work with.

It was about 2010 when I encountered the world of the Art Bead scene - I was instantly hooked and knew I had to get my hands on some of those wonderful hand made beauties. Lampwork, ceramic, polymer and more - using other peoples art in my own has taken the jewellery making experience to a whole other level. The art jewellery community is vibrant, inspiring and welcoming - I don't think I will ever look back!

Now I continue to make jewellery in my little studio-corner here in Brighton - my style continues to grow and evolve as I learn new techniques and find new inspiration from the world around me and my fabulous fellow jewellery makers. I can only hope that maybe I will bring joy and inspire others too!
