The Long & Short of It

The Short Version:
This shop started as a way to pay for our wedding after my father was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. He made it to the wedding, but passed away not long after. Six months later, my mother was also diagnosed with lung cancer, and I left my "real job" to take care of her. Now, by purchasing from this shop you are helping give my husband and I a chance of having a baby, through IVF. Thank you for your support, it means a lot to us.

The Long One:
I had never given much thought to my wedding, let alone how it would be paid for. I just knew I wanted to be engaged for “a while” before the big day. I guess I figured that way I would have time to save, or that my parents would help. My husband proposed on New Year’s Day, 2014. Three days later, we found out my father had stage 4 lung cancer. He was given "about a year". Despite our not-so-storybook past, I still wanted my Dad to walk me down the aisle. With the diagnosis and timeline, I knew Chad and I would be planning quickly, as well as footing the bill.
I’m a baker by trade, but I have a crafty side too. To cut costs I started DIY-ing everything I could. Invitations, mailing labels, centerpieces, you name it. People LOVED them. Several people told me I should sell them. I opened my shop in March of 2014. I listed a few things, and the orders began to trickle in.
We were married in October of 2014. My father walked me down the aisle, danced with me, gave a toast, and then (while I was playing the shoe game/bouquet toss/garter toss) was wheeled out of the ballroom and rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. He was in respiratory failure. No one told me until I demanded to know where he was. The next morning, my new husband and I visited my father in the hospital, and were told “Go. You need to go on your honeymoon and start your life together.” So, we did. A few days after returning from our honeymoon, my father passed away.
Less than six months later, in April of 2015, my mother was also diagnosed with lung cancer, but thankfully they had caught it sooner. My last day working at the bakery was in July of that year, the day before her surgery. I drove her to and from follow up appointments and scans, picked up her prescriptions, took her shopping, cooked her meals, anything she needed. It was then that I realized life is short, and I wanted to be there for my family. Two years later, I am still taking her to and from appointments, and am happy to say she officially TWO YEARS CANCER FREE!
Throughout all of this, Chad and I had been trying for a baby. There is nothing in the world we would love more than a sweet little bundle of joy. We decided it would be best for me to continue with my etsy shop, in hopes it would grow enough that I could stay home with our future children. With no luck after two and a half years, we decided to see a fertility specialist. Sadly, we were told our only option was IVF. All profits from this shop will be put towards our future family. Thank you for supporting us.

Additional policies and FAQs
INVOICES
Due to the amount of orders marked as gifts, a copy of the invoice *is not* included in my packages. You will receive an invoice/receipt via email from Etsy.

CUSTOM ORDERS
I will not begin work on a custom order until it has been paid in full and design specifications have been made. Once I have received payment and instructions, I will work up a proof.
Your item will not be printed and/or cut until the proof has been approved, therefore your quick response time is critical in order to ensure your item is processed quickly and efficiently.

PROOFS
Design proofs give the buyer a way to identify any mistakes or inconsistencies before their item is printed and/or cut. It is the buyer's responsibility to carefully review all proofs and identify mistakes (made by either the buyer or myself). No refunds will be given due to design errors once a proof has been approved.
***A maximum of THREE design changes (fonts, layouts, etc.) will be allowed.***

RESTOCKING FEE
If a return or exchange is approved, a restocking fee of $5 will be applied.

COLORS
All monitors display colors a little differently. The actual color of your item may vary a bit from what is shown on your screen.
Please contact me for a sample if you need an exact color match.

HANDMADE
All items in my shop are handmade, meaning each piece is unique; no two items will be exactly the same. These differences are part of what gives these items their character and charm. Every effort will be made to send "identical" items on orders of multiples, however there may be small differences in placement.
Privacy
This Privacy Policy describes how and when I collect, use, and share information when you purchase an item from me, contact me, or otherwise use my services through Etsy.com or its related sites and services.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties that I do not own or control, including Etsy or any third party services you access through Etsy. You can reference the Etsy Privacy Policy to learn more about its privacy practices.

You may also choose to provide me with additional personal information (for a custom order, for example), if you contact me directly.

Why I Need Your Information and How I Use It

I rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:
• as needed to provide my services, such as when I use your information to fulfill your order, to settle disputes, or to provide customer support;

I use your information to provide the services you requested and in my legitimate interest to improve my services; and 2) Compliance with the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use. I use your information as necessary to comply with my obligations under the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

Information about my customers is important to my business. I share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:
• Etsy. I share information with Etsy as necessary to provide you my services and comply with my obligations under both the Etsy Seller Policy and Etsy Terms of Use.

How Long I Store Your Information

I retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in my Privacy Policy. However, I may also be required to retain this information to comply with my legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce my agreements. I generally keep your data for the following time period: 7 years.

Transfers of Personal Information Outside the EU

I may store and process your information through third-party hosting services in the US and other jurisdictions. As a result, I may transfer your personal information to a jurisdiction with different data protection and government surveillance laws than your jurisdiction. If I am deemed to transfer information about you outside of the EU, I rely on Privacy Shield as the legal basis for the transfer, as Google Cloud is Privacy Shield certified.

Your Rights

If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases. I describe these rights below:
• Access. You may have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information I hold about you by contacting me using the contact information below.
• Change, restrict, delete. You may also have rights to change, restrict my use of, or delete your personal information. Absent exceptional circumstances (like where I am required to store data for legal reasons) I will generally delete your personal information upon request.
• Object. You can object to (i) my processing of some of your information based on my legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from me after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, I will delete your personal information unless I have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.
• Complain. If you reside in the EU and wish to raise a concern about my use of your information (and without prejudice to any other rights you may have), you have the right to do so with your local data protection authority.
