About

Cool Midcentury Items and Curiosities for the Urban Dweller

I've been a fan of midcentury design for a long time, dating back at least as far as the mid-1980s, when I had white vinyl barrel-style swiveling chair with little tapered legs in a college apartment, and my roommate contributed a George Nelson Bubble Lamp to the room.

Since those halcyon days of college, I've gotten married and now divorced. The divorce led to a new home, and so I've started fresh by furnishing my home nearly entirely in midcentury items. Once I tuned my attention to these items, I've quickly filled my house. Instead of stopping, I've decided to share my bounty with others! It's so much fun to learn the history and provenance of items--and now my new house is full of stories.

I chose the name "The Curated Cave" because I was joking with a friend how much of a mancave my house is; she replied that everything seems "curated," so I put the two ideas together in the name of the shop.

I tend to gravitate towards barware and tableware, but I am gaining confidence in my furniture refinishing skills, too. I try to carry many diverse items and hit a broad price range, too. Furthermore, I seem to acquire items faster than I list them, so please visit often, as I'm adding items constantly.

I blog at thecuratedcave.com when time and inclination converge.

I have a booth at the Vintage Garage Chicago (3rd Sunday of the month, April-October). I wholeheartedly recommend this sale to any aficionado of midcentury design. The vendors are friendly and knowledgeable, and the patrons are fun. More info at http://vintagegaragechicago.com.
