    Let's Stay Together

The story of Cutie and the Creep is really a Love story...
We met in Oregon and within two years we became friends, lovers, and parents.

Jarrett has a BFA in drawing and painting and I worked towards a degree in digital art. We were always working on some creative project: he would dumpster dive for painting massive collages, and I would work on animations for my classes.

Several years later we began working on puppets. We started a traveling puppet theater called Imagine-A-Nation. It was a mix of marionettes and hand-puppets, sewing costumes, writing scripts and music. We'd throw it all on a bike trailer Jarrett made and bike to our shows. One year, we were finalists for the Jim Henson Foundation grant.

Soon puppets gave way to going back to school. Our babies were older and we needed to get "serious". Jarrett went back to become a science teacher, and I went for an MFA in digital art, concentrating on combining video with sculptural objects.

For awhile, we continued dabbling in personal projects. Jarrett filled his sketchbooks, I screenprinted and made clothes with my friend, Amy. She continues her work at http://threadbareapparel.etsy.com

Then we found teaching jobs and moved to the Washington, DC area. We discovered the artist, Red Nose Studio, and started making polymer clay-based puppets. Even the kids made puppets!

Finally, right around New Year's of 2013, we had the sudden inspiration of presenting our work TOGETHER. Though we've collaborated in the past, our personal work has always remained separate - my stuff was "cute" or "pretty", his was "creepy" or "weird". It never occurred to us to set up a joint venture until then.

We immediately set up shop and we've been working on Cutie and the Creep ever since. Now, it seems natural to see cuties and creeps together. We realize, though we are so different in style and personality, we really fit together well.

And how fitting to finally know this, when we'll be celebrating 10 years of marriage this year!
