Created a purple version of my floral work for my Nana's lavender themed bathroom! These floral ones are my favorite, and the pink one is still available. Stay tuned for another colorway soon!

Maker, Mother, and Wife

Hello there, Ally here. I grew up in Miami, Florida, where both my parents knew their way around textiles. My dad sewed ballroom gowns, and my mom created quilts, clothes, and more. I, in particular, remember a magenta pink dress that my mother sewed for my fifth grade dance party, which I requested the dress be long enough to maintain modesty during cartwheels at said dance party.

Getting into textiles started slowly through my childhood and burst during my time at college. I attended Brigham Young University, graduated December 2016, and got into fabrics and sewing in a clothing construction class during my last semester there. While hand-hemming a blue and white floral skirt, I felt at peace methodically stitching my creation. With a needle and thread in hand, I translated hand-hemming into full on embroidery, through which my husband lovingly permitted me to take over the whole kitchen table with hoops, linen, felt, and thread. My love for embroidery as a freehand work has blossomed, and I thoroughly enjoy watching each of my hand-stitched products come to life.

During my time as queen of the dining room table, I learned that my handsome husband and I were expecting a baby. However, the baby, it was also learned, was ectopic in nature, and would not survive. In grief I turned to the creation process, pulling myself out of bed to the table covered in cloth and scraps. It was at that table, with intermittent tears, that I designed, cut, assembled, and stitched the first of my Critter Creations. To me, that Critter was and still is an object that symbolizes the baby we lost to faulty physiology. The next Critter came, just after the first, and I gifted it to my first nephew. A third Critter followed close behind. And they, and the fresh life they symbolize, won’t stop coming.

For me, the process of creation, from concept to stitching to the final presented piece, is a cathartic and joyful journey. I feel so blessed to be able to create with my two hands, and to share those creations with you. Please follow along by favoriting my shop and following me on Instagram.
