The Dorothy Days - Selling vintage and handmade from my home in the English countryside.

Welcome to The Dorothy Days and thank you for looking at my about page. I hope that through this page you will find out a little more about me and my shop.

I am Rachel and I run The Dorothy Days with the help of my wonderful husband Jamie and my Mum, Sharon.

My family are originally from London but we moved to a little 18th century thatched cottage in a tiny village in rural Dorset, England. I now spend my time between Dorset and the beautiful Sussex coast.

I had a wonderful childhood growing up in the countryside. The village was a magical place to grow up. Still to this day there are no road markings or street lights and it was the kind of place where you know all your neighbours. The warmer months were spent playing in the garden, lazing in the sunshine in meadows and attempting to make our very own flower perfumes (!) and the winter months were spent making dens in the woods, splashing in puddles and frequently getting stuck in mud (!) and then coming in and warming up in front of the fireplace.

My love for the countryside is something that inspires my work and also the style of the vintage items which I sell in my shop. I hope to bring a little slice of the English countryside to you all!

I have based my shop around one of my favourite quotes. The quote is by William Morris (1834 - 1896) who was an English textile designer and artist. He said, “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”, with this quote in mind I have filled my shop with beautiful handmade items and vintage items which are both beautiful and useful. My vintage items such as my teacups look beautiful when displayed but can also be used and this is a fantastic way to bring life back to old object.

I love using traditional techniques to create modern items such as my knitted hats and make products which are designed to last and to be treasured and enjoyed.

I am proud to be a small, independant shop which is individual and greatly influenced by my own style and tastes.I love both the vintage and the crafting aspects of my shop as both of these are a huge passion of mine and something I really enjoy doing. I hope that my passion for these objects comes through in my shop. You certainly won't be able to find this on the highstreet!

Aside from making and vintage selling, my other passions include....

* Art- Art has always been a major passion of mine. You will often find me wandering around art galleries in total awe!!

*Tea - If you have seen my Twitter you will already know this about me, I am rather obsessed with tea and never far from a trusty cuppa! When I am crafting tea helps fuel my creativity and when I am listing new items it keeps me going.

*Eco living - I try and live as eco-friendly life as I can.

*My 2 Boston Terrier dogs - They are called Ethel and Greta and they frequently feature on my social media! Ethel is pretty chilled out and likes nothing better than sleeping in the garden. Greta is normally found sitting on top of Ethel trying to get her to play with her...!

*Trying new crafts - I love trying something new. I recently had my hen-do at a pottery making studio which was great fun to try.

I really hope this has given you a little insight into my shop and let you know a little bit about me too. I am always happy to hear from you, please feel free to drop me a message with a question, comment or custom request.

Please also see my social media sites, you can now find me on Instagram, blogger, Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook

Have a wonderful day!

Frequently asked questions
Wholesale availability

We offer wholesale for our products. Please contact us via Etsy convo or for wholesale enquiries.

Gift wrapping and packaging

I gift wrap all orders so they are perfect for giving as a gift or a lovely treat for yourself

Small items: Organza bag and placed into a branded gift bag.
Larger items: Gift wrapped in tissue paper

Breakable items are carefully wrapped in protective packaging to ensure your item is protected during shipping. Prints are sent in protective sleeves to prevent any water damage in transit.

I like to be as eco friendly as possible so use recycled packaging material when I can. I use mailing bags for items such as my hats. I hope to change to a more eco-friendly alternative in the future but for now, it is most eco friendly for me to use this stock up before making the change. If you rather me wrap in non-plastic let me know.

I photograph all my items in high resolution so you can see in detail the item. Please click on the photographs to view the items in high resolution. Please be aware that due to different lighting and different computer monitor settings the colour of the item may vary slightly from the photograph.

Leaving Etsy feedback is really appreciated and really helps my small shop to grow.

If you have any problems with your order, please do contact me via convo about the issues you are having first so that I can try to get them resolved for you.

I always love to see your photos of my products, please tag them #thedorothydays so I can find them on social media and share!

If you have any other questions or queries please get in touch by sending me an etsy 'convo' which you can do through my Etsy shop

Canada Post are currently experiencing delays to delivery services due to high volumes of incoming mail. The latest update is post is taking 2-3 weeks longer to arrive than the usual 5-7 working days. My free delivery option is the standard post. I would recommend that customers upgrade to the tracked service for a small extra fee as the post using this service is getting processed much faster than the standard option. This option is available at the checkout.

1 working day is my standard turnaround time for orders. If I can, I will try and get your order out the same working day.

During busier times or times which I am away, I will extend my shipping times so you will be able to see this on individual listings if this is extended. I also put a notification up on my shop. Please see individual listings for most up to date turnaround times or contact me if you need more information.

If you need to return an item, please contact me before doing so I can let you know how to return your item to me. Thanks!
