About

When Life Gives You Lemons

Hi I'm Jo, mum to two pretty much grown up beautiful girls, wife to a wonderfully supportive husband (who's building my garden studio as I type), artisan, Christian, dreamer and smiler. I have a laugh that a lot of my friends call infectious, but seriously...you could clear a room with it.
I started The Dove Stop as a kind of therapy, to keep me sane and give me something to focus on. Back in 2000 I had a life changing accident that affected my whole life. It totally took away the woman I thought I was and left me and my young family with a shell of a person. For the longest time I was unable to come to terms with what had happened to me but one day something changed....I stopped focusing on all the things I could no-longer do and started focusing on all the things I could. I'd always been artistic but life gets in the way and before you know it, it's taken a back seat, lurking somewhere amongst the cobwebs. Now being creative and artistic was a therapy and people started taking an interest in what I was producing. I was painting portraits, landscapes and commissions for people all over the world and enjoying the process...life was good again.
In 2011 it all changed again. I was hospitalized with horrific pains in my head and a diagnosis of Meningitis. I could no longer paint and I felt so lost again. I'd been living with pain in my body for 11 years and now I'd have to live with it in my head too.
Let's be honest, life isn't always fair but there is always someone who's got it worse than you and this time I was armed with a half glass full attitude. So what do you do when life gives you lemons? Open an Etsy shop of course! Sewing and making has become my new outlet and although I still live with pain every single day, I've learnt to pace myself and find new ways of being creative. The Dove Stop is my reminder that I'm not on this journey alone and that I can hold onto the promises given. I am a creative being, therefore I create and I hope you'll enjoy the fruits.
Blessing's,
Jo :) x
