Continuing a Legacy
When I was little I visited my grandparents so often it felt like a second home, and it felt like not a visit passed that my Grandmother didn't give me something that she had made; a new nightgown, an embroidered dress, a special pillow, a monogrammed handkerchief. When I got a bit older she started teaching me. At the age of 5 I completed my first embroidered flower. At the age of 9 I sewed my first dress. My Grandmother owned a small shop called the Enchanted Cottage. She sold fine embroidery supplies and heirloom sewing materials as well as a myriad of beautiful and unique gifts. I spent countless hours there as a child learning the arts of Brazilian Embroidery, Cross Stitch, Smocking, Heirloom Sewing and everything in between. My Grandmother fostered a love for making in me that only got stronger as I grew up. She helped me learn the slow art of creating something beautiful by hand and making it not just a product, but a work of art and love. This slow art in a world of instant gratification and mass production is something that I hold dear and would like share with others. So my shop is dedicated to my Grandmother and everything that she taught me.
