Since I was a child I’ve enjoyed making crafty things as a hobby, but it wasn’t until I had to make some wedding signs for a special someone that I realized I enjoyed working with wood. It was amazing to go from a raw piece of wood to something that can be cherished for years to come. Later, I started giving different designs as gifts to family and friends. Next thing I knew, I was making signs and other wood gifts for friends to give as gifts or to display at their wedding. Then a friend suggested I list them on Etsy. It all took off from there.

In no time I was working full-time and needed help to keep up. My husband (who always enjoyed working with wood anyway) had to quit and work with me. At that moment, I knew my “hobby” had become a dream come true! In fact, my husband is creative in his own way and he has come up with some really good ideas that I would have never thought of on my own.

Our family run business, The Freckled Owl, consist mostly of my husband and myself, but from time to time we have to call on help from my daughter and parents. Having them help with packing, shipping and some occasional sanding of wood or painting comes in handy during our busy season. I just don’t know how we would make it without them!

Nothing thrills me more than to know my passion for design is being used for other people’s special days or a keepsake hanging on the wall reminding someone of a memory.
