5 out of 5 starsThose are originals pieces of art in ink and watercolour, (old Polaroid size). I just love them and they make me smile, they're wonderful. They were shipped very fast and very carefully. Emma has a unique talent and is also a very kind person.

My garden studio, which is cosy and comfy come snow or sun.

I've recently started combining my love of typography with my growing interest in embroidery.

I can't lie, my dog is a huge distraction... but I defy anyone to ignore that beautiful face!

Lino cutting is incredibly hard work, but a lot of customers aren't aware of how time consuming the process is.

Sketching is something I do for pleasure as well as profit, and I think my best work is always the unpaid stuff!
From trash to treasure
What’s in a name?
As a gardener by trade I thought it was appropriate to set up shop in a shed, metaphorically speaking, and so The Gift Shed was born. When I started making and selling my books in 2008 I intended it to be a part-time thing, something that would keep me busy (and help me earn some money) in the winter months when gardening work is a bit thin on the ground. Things have changed, though, and now I split my time more equally between gardening and working in my studio. It’s a nice balance, a week gardening and then a week being arty, and it means I still enjoy a lot of variety!
What do I do?
I particularly like to create things from things which might otherwise be considered junk or rubbish – thus reusing and recycling materials to create something useful and/or beautiful. This was initially born of necessity, as reusing materials meant that there was a greater profit margin on my items (which is desperately necessary when you're first starting out). These day I have the luxury (and it IS a luxury) of being able to use brand new materials whenever I like, but I still find reusing things far more satisfying.
Where do I work?
I built a studio at the bottom of my garden and it suits me perfectly. My own amazing space in which to be creative with the sound of birdsong in the background, and the commute is nice and short!
Anything else?
I have a beautiful dog as my almost constant companion, and I can't function without two cups of coffee in the morning.

Accepted payment methods
Returns and exchanges
Items which are lost in the post will be replaced/refunded subject to a suitable length of time having elapsed. Royal Mail asks that customers allow at least three weeks after the item was posted before claiming that it is lost, and given how unreliable the post can sometimes be I ask customers to give it a full month before giving up on an item being delivered.
Payment
Payment should be made immediately upon checkout. If payment is not made within two days of purchase I will attempt to contact you via Etsy. If I receive no reply and no payment I will leave negative feedback for you and ask Etsy to cancel the transaction.
If you would like to purchase an item but lack the funds to do so immediately then please contact me. I am usually happy to hold items for an agreed period of time if it's discussed in advance!
Shipping
Please note that I update my store announcement on a weekly basis to keep customers informed of posting days for that week. Orders which are shipped from here (the UK) to the US usually take 5-10 working days to arrive.
If you would like your package sent by a trackable method (i.e. Special Delivery within the UK) then please contact me to discuss pricing.
Please note that I obtain proof of posting for every item which is sent out. In the event of lost parcels, Royal Mail will not accept complaints or commence any investigation until at least 3 weeks have lapsed from the date of posting. It's very rare for parcels to go missing, but in the event that it happens I ask customers to be patient and wait for three weeks - if at the end of that time the parcel still hasn't arrived then I will issue a refund/replacement and contact Royal Mail with a complaint.
