Lovingly restored vintage telephones

Originally offering all types of vintage treasures, The Gold Gator evolved into a shop specializing in lovingly restored vintage telephones. As a lifelong resident of New Orleans displaced by hurricane Katrina, I was forced to start over and replace an entire household that had been destroyed. I scoured thrift shops and yard sales to build a home for my family and found joy in rescuing vintage treasures. That joy translated into a shop on Etsy. After purchasing several rotary phones that weren’t in great condition, I became interested in having the phones restored and was amazed at how fantastic these old phones could appear again. Seeing the phones in my home, hearing them ring, and the satisfaction of dialing someone’s phone number gives me a feeling of nostalgic pleasure. I love thinking of all of the conversations that took place on the phones, news and greetings shared with friends and family in a time when social media didn’t exist. The phones are more than a “product” to me, they are searched for, rescued, restored and offered to you with the hope that they will be thoroughly enjoyed for years to come.

Frequently asked questions
Are your phone vintage or reproductions?

All of the phones we sell are vintage - NO reproductions.

Your phones look like they are new - are they painted?

All of the phones in the shop are professionally cleaned and polished to bring them back to their original beauty (or as close as possible!), they are not painted.

Do these phones work or are they just decorative?

All of the phones in the shop work. They have been tested to be sure they get a dial tone, make outgoing calls, receive incoming calls and ring properly.

I'd love a rotary phone! What do I need to get started?

You will need:
1) A land line with service;
2) The appropriate jack for the type of phone you want. Wall mounted phones require a different jack than table top models;
3) A service provider that supports rotary (or pulse) dialing. If your service provider does NOT support rotary dialing, the phone will not be able to make outgoing calls due to the rotary signal not being recognized. A pulse to tone converter will fix this issue. Converters can be purchased from my shop, home improvement and electronics stores, and online.

What if I have other questions?

Please send a message, I generally reply the same day, and am happy to answer any questions you may have regarding any of the phones in the shop.
