The Granny Squared is my passion for crochet, crafts, sewing and vintage patterns

I started my Etsy store after stage 2 breast cancer taught me to chase my dreams. I love crochet, crafting, and sewing. What started as a small shop with a few crocheted items, has transformed into a successful Etsy business that includes a large inventory of sewing patterns.

One of my dreams was to become more self-sufficient. My home is a small, suburban homestead where we grow a lot of our own food and raise hens for eggs. I run several blogs that highlight my homesteading lifestyle. You can read about sewing and crocheting on and my homesteading adventures on

Why vintage sewing patterns? I started selling patterns as a way to destash my pattern inventory. After surgery for breast cancer, none of the patterns I had planned on sewing for myself would fit. Now that my reconstructive surgeries are almost completed and I am no longer going through chemo, I have the energy and ability to sew again. Because of the surgeries, off the rack clothing never fits right. I now sew my own bras and lingerie as well as outerwear, especially tops and dresses.

I come from a background in sewing. My grandparents owned a dry cleaners and tailor shop in Bronx, NY. Growing up, I spent a lot of time hanging out in the store. As a teenager, this shop was my first real job outside of babysitting and camp counselor.

Grandma used to sew on an old commercial Singer, the kind you had to spin the wheel and work the foot pedal to operate.

I love vintage patterns. Fashion from days gone by intrigue me. The glamour of Hollywood Regency era and the classic fashion of First Lady Jackie Kennedy, remind me that these patterns are connections to our past. They bring back memories of my grandmother and Paradise Dry Cleaners on Katonah Ave.

I love sewing and vintage patterns. Older sewing patterns are a connection to our past. Some of the fashions never go out of style. My favorite eras are the 1920s flapper, and the fun lines of the 1950s and 60s.

Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

Vintage sewing patterns are not the same size as off the rack clothes and modern sewing patterns. To make sure you get the correct size pattern, take your bust, hip, and waist measurements with a tape measure. Use those measurements and the sizing information on the pattern envelope (always available in my photos) to choose the correct size.

What is a cut and punched or unprinted pattern?

Vintage sewing patterns, especially those prior to 1950 were not printed like modern patterns. They were pre-cut at the factory and have a series of perforations and punch marks that are used to construct the garment.

This type of pattern is called "cut and punched" by the industry because that is how it was manufactured. A basic knowledge of garment construction and sewing is required. Seam allowances may or may not be included.

There is no printing on the pattern pieces. Pattern pieces are identified with perforated numbers or letters.

Is this a reproduction or copy of a pattern?

All of my patterns are the original patterns from the manufacturer unless I have specified that it is a reproduction or copy.

What is a pattern rating?

Most patterns are rated from very easy to advanced. You should choose a pattern that fits your sewing skills.

The easiest and quickest patterns to sew. Great for beginner or the experienced sewer with limited time available.

Easy-to-sew patterns but with more details than the Very Easy category. Perfect for those with limited sewing knowledge or little time.

These patterns are perfect if you have more time to sew, and more experience sewing. Look for challenging designer techniques, tailoring, unique construction details.

Perfect for those who like the sewing challenge of professional tailoring and fine couture techniques.
