I got tired of being poked...

I have been sewing for years now, and way back when I started I didn't know anything beyond what the pattern instructions told me to do. I loved dressing up for costume parties, renaissance faires, and the like, but I just never felt very comfortable. I really enjoy wearing bodices, I mean, after all, who doesn't like looking thinner just for a day. Of course the layers of skirts required for some historical costumes makes you just feel fabulous.

The first bodice I ever made was, uhm, interesting. I took a vest-like jacket apart and modified it to work. Well, it worked for that Halloween and maybe a couple of things afterward, but that was it. I gave making a 'real' bodice a try. Oh my that was aweful. I have never been more uncomfortable in my life. Boning poking me everywhere! Yikes.

During this time I also worked for a drama team and we did all kinds of small productions, so I found myself mixing and matching outfits to come up with something for the girls to wear for their parts, sewing new items, or redoing old ones. I quickly discovered that a bodice can go a long way if you make it to fit more than one person.

After a few years I finally tried tackling the bodice again, but I rethought it... and redesigned it to be easier to wear, and feel much more comfortable. I also designed the bodice to lace up the sides so that if it didn't fit one day to the next, there wasn't any problem adjusting it to fit. Of course if someone wanted to borrow it, it would fit them too!

I moved here to Oregon about 10 years ago, and our family needed help making ends meet. So I started sewing bodices professionally. It took time and the design slowly evolved to what it is today thanks to the kind help and suggestions of friends, relatives, and customers. One customer actually suggested using cable ties instead of dress boning to me. I did a special order for her and she requested them! I asked her about it and she told me that the opera company in New York that she used to work for, used to use cable ties all the time! I gave it a try... and LOVED the result! Out went the dress boning and I now use cable ties in everything that needs boning!

My bodices have sold to customers all over the world including, France, Canada, Australia, Germany, and many more countries. I also have sold them locally to dancers, reenactors, magicians, and gals who just want to dress up! Two of my bodices have also made their appearances in a widly known horse 'show' in New York!! Customer after customer has come back to me and told me that they really enjoy the bodices, the fabric, and the overall design of the bodices that I make. I think I can say with confidence that you will enjoy them too!
