About TheGreenWorldShop

Sales 95
On Etsy since 2011

This is my Green World.

Hello! My name is Adrienne, and I am a crafting addict. My crafting keeps me sane and grounded. I created the shop primarily to fund my crafting addiction, and to find homes for all the things that I make.

As you can imagine, my life significantly influences my art. As the wife of a US Navy Chief, and the mother of three very spirited and resilient military kids, much of what I make is nautical or military themed. I am also a giant nerd, so much of my art is also inspired my some of my favorite things in pop culture, which range from sci-fi to super heroes to high fantasy. The rest is just made up of things and patterns and combinations that make me happy, that I hope will bring joy to others as well.

It is important to me to give back to my communities, and to be a part of the change I want to see around me. When this started, I want my military pride pieces to be more than just symbolic. Showing support for our military is great, but I want to put my money where my mouth is. As a military spouse who once had cause to seek the assistance of the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society, I know well the value of this organization. So, for every sale of an item from my Military Pride line, I will donate $1 to the NMCRS, which works to support Navy and Marine Corps service members and families in crisis. http://www.nmcrs.org/

Did you know that dandelions are the official flower of the Military Child, that purple is their official color, and that April has been set aside by the DoD as a time to celebrate the sacrifices and achievements of military children? Military kids have to live the military life right along with their parents: dealing with frequent moves, changing schools, leaving friends, and managing long-term separations from one of their parents. Yet military kids are amazingly resilient. In this way, they are very much like dandelions: hardy, beautiful little plants that will grow and thrive wherever they land. The purple comes from mixing all the colors of the branches of the United States Military: Navy blue, Army green, Air Force Blue, Marine Red, and Coast Guard blue.

If you'd like to know why my shop is called The Green World, it's a super nerdy literary term. It refers to the part of a story where the hero must leave the "world" in which he's comfortable, and enter a world that's unfamiliar. Here, the hero will learn and grow as he must in order to overcome his obstacles and win the day. This part usually incorporates some magical or supernatural element, and often takes place in a literal wilderness; that’s why it’s called the ‘green’ world. The term is most often associated with Shakespeare’s comedies, like A Midsummer Night’s Dream. My art is my green world, where I go to grow and process and overcome.

If you're looking for my former business partner, Jessica Harrison has recently established her own shop. We're still good friends, and we will likely collaborate again in the future, but her family had relocated and it made more sense to part ways. Her new business, called Sea Rose Studio Designs, is a sister shop to the Green World. Please take a moment to head on over to www.etsy.com/shop/searosestudiodesign and have a look around!

A special thanks to Amanda of kevinandamanda.com for your fabulous fonts, featured in my shop banner and logo, and in some of my custom printables! All of her fonts are available here: http://www.kevinandamanda.com/fonts/

Thanks also to Crack-A-Jack studios, for the Lemon Chicken font! http://www.crack-a-jack.com
