Modern Baby Bedding With Heart ♥

As soon as I was old enough to see over the top of the quilt frame, my Nanny handed me a needle and thread to start learning to quilt. She had a machine she used to make clothes, but she harped on quilting "the right way," which meant doing everything by hand. The Hen Pen is all thanks to her and the lessons I learned from her and her quilting friends that my Papa swore he could hear "clucking and cackling" from across the yard when they'd get together every Tuesday.

Years passed, and now three boys and a husband later, I have an entire upstairs to myself and get to live my dream of taking care of my family during the daylight and then creating into the wee hours of the night. My quilts and crib bedding nowadays are still made using traditional techniques but with the help of a sewing machine to insure each one will last for decades to come.

My shop has been such a blessing and the customers I've "met" over the years, many have become friends. Every single item that leaves my studio is one that you can count on being made with much love and an attention to detail. I love sharing my gift with you, and look forward to being a part of your most important life moments with the beauties I create.

This shop has been built on my lifelong love of sewing and creating, with its small beginnings quilting on my Nanny's knee as a girl.

I love all things vintage, with an added modern twist. Bright colors and playful patterns built upon crisp lines and traditional sewing techniques are the normal sights here at The Hen Pen.

My mission is for every one of my customers to leave my shop feeling like they have something uniquely designed and specially handmade.

I take great pride in providing excellent customer service with diligent follow-up during and after a sale, and I want to be absolutely sure you have a gift that is just as special as you and your wee one are. <3

Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)

Returns and exchange details
Returns are accepted on non-custom items within 14 days of delivery. If you are unsatisfied for any reason with your purchase and would like to return it, please message me so we can arrange return. Returns must be sent back to me with delivery confirmation and upon my receipt, a refund for your item minus the shipping costs will be processed. Item(s) must be returned in unused, unwashed condition in order to receive a refund. Customer is responsible for the cost of return shipping.

CANCELLATION REQUESTS: Requests for order cancellation must be made within 4 hours of placement in order to be eligible for a refund. Because the majority of items in the shop ship within 24-48 hours, orders are often packaged and shipped immediately upon receipt.
Payment
Payment methods available are Paypal and direct checkout through Etsy with debit/credit card. I also accept Etsy gift cards.
Shipping
All orders are sent via USPS with Delivery Confirmation included at no additional charge. A tracking number for your order will be sent via email upon shipment.

Be sure your address is showing correctly in Etsy, as this is the address that will be used to ship your item to. I cannot be held responsible for orders sent to an old address on file with Etsy -- please double check your shipping address before clicking Submit.

If you are purchasing your item as a gift and would like it shipped directly to your recipient, please make sure your recipient's address is showing in Etsy.

All orders $25 or more in value are shipped with insurance included. Items are always carefully packaged before shipment in attempt to prevent any damage or loss during transit to your doorstep. If your order arrives damaged, please take a photo and send it to me as soon as possible so I can file a claim with the USPS, and then get a replacement item sent to you.

Orders of $250 or more in value will require a signature at delivery.

All orders are shipped with Delivery Confirmation included at no additional cost. If you have not received your packaged within 7 business days following the date it was accepted by the USPS, you will have to call 1-800-ASK-USPS with your Delivery Confirmation number to have them locate your package.
Additional policies and FAQs
Care instructions are always included on the tag of each item. If instructions are not followed for the care of your item once it's in your hands, I cannot and will not be held liable for damage of your item.

Care instructions

All items should be washed with like colors on gentle or low cycle in cold water. Tumble dry low. Quilts will always last longer if line dried as much as possible.

Are your items ready to ship?

95% of my shop's items do ship within 48 hours. If you select an item that is not ready to ship, the turnaround time is listed under the Shipping Info on each listing.

Can you monogram or personalize my item?

I do not offer monogramming at this time.

Do you also make curtains, rail guards, throw pillows, crib skirts, and bumper pads?

I am able to make curtains, rail guards, throw pillows, and crib skirts. Please convo me so we can talk more about what you're wanting. I am no longer doing bumper pads due to safety concerns.

If I have a fabric I want to use, but it's not listed in your shop, can you make something for me in it?

Yes! If you have a specific fabric you'd like an item in, please convo me and I'll be happy to talk with you about it.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All items are packaged in tissue paper and neutral washi tape prior to shipment. I aim to make every customer feel like they are opening a present with every package from my shop. :) If you'd like me to also include a gift note for your recipient, please leave me a note when you checkout or convo me.

Sizing details

Nursing Pillow Covers are made to fit most name brand U-shaped nursing pillows.

Crib Sheets fit standard crib mattresses 27"x 52" and 4" deep.

Changing Pad Covers fits most standard 32"x 16"x 4" contoured changing pads.
