love it; thank you!
I love to create. I am sure all artistic people say that but I really can't describe it any other way. I work hard and quickly complete my daily tasks so that I can back to my studio and make something new. My process usually starts with a pile of colorful fabrics and trim and I start building from there. There is little planning involved, it's more of a journey, like when you throw paint on a canvas until a complete picture is formed.
There are times, when on my adventures sourcing fabrics and trims or browsing vintage boutiques here in New Orleans, that I spot something that takes my breath away. You can hear me literally suck the oxygen out of the room at that moment. It's a realization that there is this other person in the world that sees beauty just as I do and created a beautiful masterpiece to be displayed to the world draped over woman's body. My ABSOLUTE favorite is when there is hand stitched threading and a little chaos and disorder to the design. It's clothing that has a soul and a story... signs of life bursting from every seam. There are many dresses in the world but when you find these, you have found something special.
My intent is to make beautiful things...beautiful, whimsical, playful things. The kind of clothes you will want to run barefoot through a field in and lay on a blanket under the stars.
My dream is that my clothing will take your breath away.....
Around the web
Something about a department store rack with 20 of the same blouses "Made in China" has always turned me off. Maybe it was the many beautiful handmade dresses my mother made me as a child (that sometimes even had a matching hat) or the years of my life spent styling and creating a home and clothing for a family with a small budget. Sure there's WalMart, but that's not special. I want beautiful, artful, soulful things surrounding me and the ones I love. Growing up in New Orleans, I just fit right in....
Now here I am as an artist and 4th generation sewing machine wrangler, creating beautiful things for beautiful people. You can see the passion in my crazy, messy, human stitches and the chaos of patterns and colors- Blending materials from the past and present, the old and new- clothing with a soul, as one of a kind as you are.
