About

The Joy behind Joyful Clay

When I was in high school, I was fortunate to live in a community that heavily supported the arts and equipped their public schools with fantastic art departments and teachers. It was there that I first fell in love with clay (so many years ago!), and uninhibitedly explored different techniques like throwing (oh, remembering those old kick wheels!) and slab work. Though I live far from that quaint seacoast town now, my love for pottery has stayed with me through the years. A class or six here, an apprenticeship at a pottery or two there, I now find myself with my own 8x8 studio shed, equipped with my pre-loved wheel, dinosaur of a kiln (she's a beast!), and worktable handmade by friends out of leftover pallets. A life-long dream to have my own studio, I sneak out there at odd moments throughout the day, sometimes to do a little creating, sometimes to check on the kiln, and sometimes just to stand in it, and marvel at how this long journey of clay love has brought me to this point in time.
I work both on the wheel and in handbuilding, creating things for family, home, and heart. I adore carving and decoration, so most of my pieces don't escape at least a little extra decor.
When not in the studio, I'm selling my work at the local farmers market or at various local art shows. In addition, I'm happily a mama. It is incredible fun to be a witness to my children's first experiences with clay, and even if they don't grow up to adore it as I do, their exposure to it this early in life is fostering what I hope to be a lifetime of love and respect for our earth.
My not-so-slight obsession with clay is supported and encouraged by my dear husband, who works tirelessly and without complaint, greeting every successful firing with a smile equally as large as he did with the first successful firing. Without him, this dream would still be just floating around in my subconscious.

I love custom orders! Please don't hesitate to ask.

All items are neatly wrapped in brown paper and twine and make great packaging as-is. Gift tags are available upon request, please convo me the message you would like your gift card to read.

Shipping
I ship via USPS priority mail. International orders are shipped via USPS first class mail.

USPS priority mail comes with tracking, and I will inform you of the tracking number once your item has shipped.

I include cost of shipping product with my shipping charges. This can be up to $4, depending on the size of the order being shipped. If the shipping charges are over $3 of cost of shipping plus cost of packaging materials, I will issue a refund of the difference.
Refunds and Exchanges
Each piece I make is made with love and hard work, and I try to be really accurate with my descriptions of my items so there are no surprises upon arrival. If for some reason you are dissatisfied with the piece, send me a message and we can come to some sort of agreement, I'm sure, on what step to take next, whether it is replacement or refund. the only thing I can't do is refund for shipping, but if I end up sending you a new item, I will not charge for shipping of that item. Returns must be made within 30 days of receiving your piece.

Please note that items being returned to me must arrive in the condition that you received them. I will not refund for pieces that arrive broken.

It happens on rare occasion that a piece does not survive its travels to you (despite how carefully I package it!). If your item arrives damaged, I will require a photograph of that item so I can file a claim with the USPS. Please hang on to the broken item, in case the USPS wants to see it. I will then replace your item at no cost to you, but will need you to allow for production time if the item is one of a kind or not in stock.
