5 out of 5 starsThe Words to Live By mug was a birthday gift for my sister. She received it the day before and was pleasantly surprised. She loves her new mug! Thank you for all you did to assure her gift arrived on time, even to the tiny town she lives in.

The Joy behind Joyful Clay
From the time she was able to hold a pencil, Sarah Sewell-Tippin has been making art. She was fortunate to go to a high school with a robust art department in New England, and it was there that she was introduced to the potter’s wheel. The connection was immediate, though life would take her away from it for the next 15 years. After graduating from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a degree in English, Sarah worked for a time as an artist for a Baltimore painting company. From there, she spent time working in her father’s restaurant as a cook and wedding cake decorator.
When Sarah’s first child was born, she ventured back into the world of clay, taking a weekly pottery class. Her plan at that time was to become a registered nurse, but when she began to throw again, she realized her heart was pulling her in the direction of ceramics. So, to satisfy her curiosity, she apprenticed for a local production pottery and began creating her own studio space in her home. In the spring of 2014, Joyful Clay was born.
Sarah has a simple vision for Joyful Clay: pottery is her way of connecting to humanity and the world around her. She uses nature and domestic life as inspiration to make beautiful pottery that is as aesthetically pleasing as it is useful.
Sarah lives in Annapolis, Maryland with her husband, two children, two dogs, and two rescued house rabbits. Her studio space is in her garage, and she is the sole potter in her company, creating each piece herself with love and care.
“I hope my work brings you joy, as I hope life brings you joy, in savoring moments as simple as holding a warm cup of coffee in your hands while sharing a conversation with a loved one.”- Sarah Sewell-Tippin
