*My journey to the Here and Now*

I have been drawn to creative expression through craft for as long as I can remember. Throughout my early years, my focus remained primarily on the drawing and painting end of the spectrum. While taking a portfolio course in high school, I was given the opportunity to work as an intern for a fabulous woman by the name of Karen, who now serves as one of my most salient mentors in the world of jewelry design and fabrication. After being "shown the ropes," so to speak, I moved to Asheville, North Carolina where I continued to cultivate my skills in jewelry making and began selling my work to friends and family. While my academic career at the University of North Carolina at Asheville took precedence for some time, I was able to focus more of my time on the development of an entrepreneurship following my graduation in the Spring of 2009.

I began attending several gem and lapidary shows around the Western North Carolina region, and truly became enthralled :). I was profoundly intrigued by the individual story that each mineral held, and found great pleasure in communicating with each seller/miner. Once I was able to acquire a solid inventory, I turned the living room of my apartment into my private workshop and began production.

While seeking a valuable method by which to sell online, I was introduced to Etsy and opened my storefront in late winter/early spring of 2013. I have been delighted with the artisan community as well as the intimate nature of Etsy and find it to be an exceptionally well rounded marketplace for both buyers and sellers alike.

I have also worked as a consignment seller for many years, providing pieces for a variety of boutiques and physical storefronts. I adore consignment, as it allows me the ability to build valuable relationships with others within the craft/artisan world. This also grants me the opportunity to reach others within a variety of cities as to provide a physical reference that online selling does not allow (don't get me wrong, however, online selling is fantastic in many ways, clearly! :) ).

It would be impossible for be to consolidate my inspiration into one source, as I am basically inspired by it all! I have been able to source much of my influence throughout my travels up to now, which have included the southwestern and eastern US, Ireland, and Italy. Each idiosyncratic culture has such a rich vibrancy all it's own, and I am elated to continue my travels throughout my years as to explore more of this exquisite world and quench my thirst for discovery on many levels!

As I began to educate myself further on the holistic significance of minerals, my endeavors in jewelry making solidified a deeper meaning, as I began designing with the energetic benefit of each mineral in mind. These natural beauties have much more to give than simply serving as a nice aesthetic accessory!

All in all, I am profoundly grateful for the journey that has led me to the Here and Now.

While "art" may be viewed by some as an idea that is consolidated primarily to visuals such as painting, sculpture, etc...I see art as a thematic paradigm to life in general. That is, "art" is a component of all things from our health, to our relationships (with ourselves and others), to our chosen work and beyond. It is a divine integration that saturates all things, places, and energies.

Thank you for being who you are, and may you be well!

    Love,
    Megan

    Hello!
Welcome to TheKaleidsocopeShop, the online storefront for Kaleidoscope Designs. Thank you so much for visiting!

As the sole owner, designer, fabricator, and distributor of Kaleidoscope Designs, I lead with the mission to utilize some of our earth's most exquisite natural elements to create a form of wearable art. As each piece is skillfully handcrafted with acute attention to detail and overall quality, I strive to capture and accentuate the unique beauty of each individual adorned in my designs.

I have had a strong affinity for Southwestern culture and craft since childhood, as this is projected in many of my designs. I also find great pleasure in incorporating a plethora of design techniques and mixed media approaches...anything from paint, to wire-wrapping, to Raku pottery :).

I am inspired by it all! I feel as though once we allow ourselves to wake up to the incredible wonder that surrounds us every day, the blessings become endless, and our true, prolific creative juices are given the ad infinitum freedom to flow.

As with each of us, every mineral has a personal story. I like to refer to this as an energetic signature. Whether still engrained within a mountain face, or worn around our necks, each mineral exudes a set of beneficial characteristics. Below each item, you will find a small description of the energetic signature of the minerals that are most predominant within that piece. These profound minerals provide not only a delightful aesthetic value, but they have the power to enhance one's mind, body, and spirit as well.

Not only do I consider myself an artist and jewelry craftsperson, but I view art and creative expression as a way of life. I look at it as a profoundly amazing reality to share this with others by expressing myself through craft and am hopeful that this passion is reflected within each of my creations.

    *Ineffable Gratitude*
