My name is Chris Bird, and I’m the creator behind the Knotty Bird Studio! I’m so glad you’re here! Probably just like you, I’ve always, ALWAYS, got several projects on the go and have been like this most of my life. My grandmothers taught me how to knit, crochet and embroider when I was really young, so decades ago 😉, and over the years I’ve tried many other artistic mediums. I’ve painted, sat at a potters wheel, and worked with fresh and silk florals, but have always come back to Fiber Art.

Knotty Bird came to be quite by accident. I had started teaching myself macrame, and had taken a course in weaving. I was buying from a few different suppliers but wasn’t finding my perfect product fit. I wanted fibers and ropes that were soft to the touch yet also forgiving to work with… the needed to hold their integrity even as I ripped my work back…not an easy combination. And they MUST be ethically made and good for the environment. That led me to my primary line, BOBBINY, but there were very few suppliers in the US to buy from. BOBBINY is Imported from Poland, and voila, Knotty Bird Studio was born, carrying Braided Cotton Cords, Single Twist String, 3ply Ropes and Metallic cords, all in many sizes and a huge range of beautiful colors.

I’ve since branched out into gorgeous merino wool roving, art yarns, and chunky yarns, so we can be a one-stop shop for macrame, weaving, crochet and knitting. I source globally (fair trade when possible) and I’m always on the hunt for new products! I’d love to hear from you, if you have an idea for something I’m missing and other areas I can help.
