Finding a Niche....
After years of crafting, I realized I had a roomful of "stuff" but no direction. I have tried about every kind of craft there is....sewing, embroidery, crocheting, woodworking, stained glass, decoupage, folk art furniture, bead looming, photography, to name a few!
When the camera store I worked at part time closed, I decided to make some jewelry and start working the local craft fairs. I already had lots of beads and things to get started. I bought a tent and a few extra things needed to set up at a fair and went to work. With the help of my husband (for muscle) and my sister (for help selling and organizing) we had minor success.
Working craft fairs is hard work and I have a new respect for those who do them every week or for the majority of a years time, but we kept at it for a while and considering that my prices ranged from $3 to $20, we considered a $200 day to be a success.
One day a friend of mine, a lovely artist named Pat (www.paintingsbypat.etsy.com) brought me a couple of ear cuffs she had bought years before. They had been pairs but she had lost the mate to each one and asked me if I could make something like them. I remembered cuffs from when I was a kid but didn't realize they were still around, and had only seen band type cuffs, not the wire and bead type like she was showing me. I was intrigued, and being the kind of person who loves a challenge, I went about making her a couple of pairs. They were pretty rough considering they were my first, but she loved them and wore them often.
Friends started asking Pat about her cuffs and she told me that I should make more. People she came in contact with were interested in buying them. I added some styles to my inventory for the craft fairs and everyone loved them! I kept experimenting with different types and honing my construction of them and was really challenged to make different types.
Along comes another friend who suggested I open an Etsy shop. I had no idea what Etsy was. I went online and started looking through Etsy and decided to give it a try. What a wonderful site it is! I loved the fact that it was practically no cost to get started and the tools they have set up for your site make everything so easy.
When I first opened, I posted many of my necklaces, bracelets and earrings I already had on hand. I posted a few cuff pairs but that wasn't my main focus. When my cuffs started taking off, I added new styles and the rest is history. I had not intended to be mainly an ear cuff shop, but went with the demand and it has been great.
I have found my niche......thanks for stopping by!

After years of being a crafter, I realized I had a roomful of "stuff" that pretty much represented almost every kind of craft you can imagine! I decided to concentrate on one area, jewelry, and The Lazy Leopard was launched .
I do work with sterling on some pieces but not gold or gold filled as I like to keep my pieces affordable for all. I strive to make quality pieces that are stylish and fun, classic and elegant, and offer them at reasonable prices. At this time, I have all my pieces priced from $7.00 up to $30 with most pieces in the $7-$15 range.
I love feedback from clients and lookers both!
Hope you see something you like...
