magical beings for play, in response to nature's beauty

Eastbourne, United Kingdom | 90 Sales

Announcement    Offering small beings of the elements; fairies, gnomes, sprites, nymphs, all myriad of wee folk, in an honouring of children's relationship with nature's aliveness through their play.
Each little one comes about through listening to the inspirations in the beauty of nature's details, a seed pod, a snail shell, grasses swishing in the wind. Each one is hand stitched and unique, using natural materials, mostly wools and silks, and faces are carefully hand painted. I love to create in response to wishes, please be in touch if you would a particular little someone.
What I offer is only a beginning of the character of these beings. They will change as children play themselves into them, this wearing in by play makes them ever more beautiful loveable and alive.
You can find out more about the stories of these small elemental beings, and my creative process here.

From my hands to yours, the gift of unique and bespoke fairy land beings, inspired by wishes and nature's beauty, in honour of children's play

"The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct acting from inner necessity. The creative mind plays with the objects it loves."
C.G. Jung

One fine day this little shop suddenly became, much to the delight of my children and of the little beings who were insistently wishing to take their magic out into the world. This happy happening has been birthed from the folds of years, of stitching, gathering, forming following the muddle of serendipitous silk scraps and ever tangled threads, listening to concertinas of chiffon and the evocation of seed secrets.

Firstly I sewed for my children and their friends, but as they have grown I have found time, alongside our home educating, to create small beings for others. In the playful mood of responding to inspirations I have found myself able to draw on a sense of the person who I am creating for. This open listening that my fingers and heart seem to do, hears not only the wishes of the human players, but also the essences of nature’s beings.

My hope is that through these stitched small beings and my writing about them I can nurture our awareness of the world of fey and gnome, of elf and elementals, because fairies need our belief as much as we need to believe

I am a mummy, a playworker, a playful researcher, I sew for the joy of play and nature and because my hands just have to. My days are created through home educating my daughters, loving my wild abundant, unmown weedy garden and passionately the sea

Thank you for visiting the magic fairy lady. Please feel very welcome to ask any questions you may have and to share your wishes with me.
Often once I know a little of who I am creating for I am able to mysteriously listen to the atmosphere where human hopes and needs become woven and meshed with fairy magic and my hands seem to know how to hear and stitch in this beautiful partnership.
I create in honour of children's play with nature and of the barely visible beings of the world, I use natural materials and work in ways that are in tune with my cherishing of earth water wind and fire.
