I always carry magnets with me because people give me a funny look when I tell them what I do. But it has always been an attention getter, to say the least.

The Magnificent Magnet began many years ago. My mom bought me a magnet at a craft show that had been on my fridge for several years. One day I decided to make magnets as holiday gifts for my friends and family. Although I have a degree in art and graphic design, I hadn't done any art or craft work in years. I loved creating the gifts...especially the magnets. Everyone said, "You should do a craft show." So I did.

Took some cookie sheets, a table, and my then 3 year old daughter, along with her grandma for help, I did my first show. Success and repeat! My little daughter who learned to nap under a table, refill displays, and as the years went on, learned to count money and give change. LOL...she's "thirtysomething" now and can still sleep anywhere! That was over 25 years ago...and we've been making magnets ever since!

We emerged into the WHOLESALE business by visiting gift shops at home and on vacation and by continually mailing out our catalogs.

Because of our special ability to create my original artist paintings of the local scenes, which we custom letter with the area or site name, our magnets give gift shops and attractions their own unique "local" handcrafted souvenir memento to offer visiting customers a keepsake of their trip or visit to the area.

Magnets are great because they stay visible on the fridge and create long lasting memories.

We've had some terrific help over the years. Moms, including me, who were able to work while our children were at school, allowing us to be great moms, but still continue to be produtive. A couple of retired women who just wanted something part time were also part of the team. There was always a certain "wisdom" that came from their life experiences. I understand that well, now that I am older. Some have worked in studio and some from their homes. Our vacations have been when we need them...that's been part of the deal... and it works! We've worked together to cover each other so we can still cater to our families.

Etsy is a wonderful venue for us. We love the idea that are magnets are on people's refrigerators all over the world. It's fascinating to hear from so many of them!
