About

When I was young, we had a willow tree that grew at the back fence of our small farm in Virginia. I was a prolific writer as a child, and would sit beneath this tree for hours with a spiral notebook perched on my knees. One day a mushroom appeared on the willow's trunk. It was soon followed by m any more. To me, this made the tree even more magical. Anytime I couldn't be found around the farm, my family knew I was out under the mushroom tree. When I was 13, a hurricane flooded our farm. My special tree, which had been slowly dying for years as the mushrooms grew on its decaying wood, collapsed in the storm.

I was given my first sewing machine as a young single mom, and I used it to make all my baby's diapers and carriers out of repurposed materials. Soon this bloomed into a business, and it was easy for me to decide what to name it. The memory of my mushroom tree continues to inspire me every day, as I gather objects that speak to me and wait to hear what they want to become, as I imbue old clothes with new life just as that ancient willow tree grew so many big beautiful mushrooms from its aging bark.

Twelve years after I cut up my first sweater, I'm still sewing for a living, in an historic stone house that I lovingly and mindfully restored. While I enjoy exploring different materials, wool remains my favorite. Wool is truly a "living fiber:" durable, versatile, vibrant, and rich with history here in Vermont. When my home was built in 1816, this state was the sheep capital of the world with over 1.6 million animals. How wonderful to think that the wool from the descendants of these flocks is in the sweaters that I meticulously select, cut up, and sew into delightful new things!

Returns and exchange details
***I can only accept returns on unwashed, unused items!*** Please take note of the care recommendations for an item before you buy it. I cannot be held responsible for washing machine mishaps!

I accept returns within 30 days of purchase. You are responsible for providing shipping back to me, and I cannot issue a refund until the returned item is in my hands. Shipping
I love to combine shipping! Since I do not have any standard weights on my items, and they are quite bulky, we can do this two different ways:
1) Pay for all your items. I will deduct the extra price and refund it to you when I have packaged and weighed them together.
2) Contact me for a custom listing. I will post a listing with your items in it with the combined shipping charge, and that is all you will pay. The listing will remain active for 72 hours.
