Announcement    Why choose handmade?

My name is Bryony and I make everything by hand for my company The Nine of Hearts Jewellery. I am really passionate about handmade products, and the movement away from a throwaway culture. When buying handmade, you are not only investing in a quality product which is completely unique to you, you are also supporting an individual who has spent years investing in their craft, and you are sharing in their journey, and passion for what they do.

But exactly what is involved in the handmade process? Making my jewellery by hand involves me designing, carving, sawing, shaping, fitting, soldering, refining, polishing, oxidising, more polishing, packaging and sending - all with just my hands. I often spend hours refining and altering pieces to ensure they look just right. This extensive process results in every piece being completely individual, which simply isn’t possible when things are made in a factory.

My style

I have always had a love for skulls, vintage and antiquities, and my house is full of bird skulls, mounted moths and butterflies and weird and wonderful finds. I love hunting through antique shops and vintage markets and want my jewellery to evoke that same special excitement of finding something really unique whenever a customer discovers my work.

Techniques

I use a combination of both the lost wax carving and casting process (where I carve a piece first from wax which is then cast into solid silver) and traditional silversmithing (where I cut and shape the silver and fuse pieces together using soldering). I love both equally, and tend to use casting for my big, weighty biker style pieces, and silversmithing when I’m making my gemstone work. All jewellers have their own ways of doing things, but this is what I prefer.

Hallmarking

Due to the high value of genuine precious metal, this opens up the unfortunate opportunity for fraudulent sales of jewellery. I feel it is really important that when my customers are spending their money investing in precious metal, that they can fully trust the piece they are buying is genuine.

In the UK we have a legal requirement to Hallmark silver jewellery over the weight of 7.78g, however I Hallmark everything I make, even under that weight, to offer piece of mind. I take everything to be tested and Hallmarked 925 Silver in The Assay Office in the heart of The jewellery Quarter in Birmingham, UK.

Unique designs created to be loved and to last.

Our Pieces
Our pieces are designed to be worn by our customers every day, so we make them solid and durable, with cool and unique designs that can be easily incorporated into your everyday life. The weight and texture of our pieces are important, and we think if something looks solid, it should feel that way too!

Our Collections
Biker Style - Our biker style pieces draw on the themes of Momento Mori (the reflection on ones own mortality as a way of earthly fulfilment) which includes sleek skull designs and studded jewellery. Largely this collection was created by carving the pieces first from wax, and then casting into solid silver. We do not hollow out any of our jewellery, so you can really feel the weight of our biker style pieces

Rustic Gemstone - Although we adore our plain silver jewellery, adding a colourful gemstone is a sure fire way to make a piece pop! We use ethically sourced gemstones and love using unusual shapes and colours. Often combined with hammered or textured silver and oxidisation (which blackens the silver) we have created some really eye catching statement pieces.

Geological - Inspired by time spent in beautiful North Wales, UK. The shapes of the landscape, whether this be the rugged vista of a mountain, or the structured shape using natural materials to create dry stone walls, the texture and feel of these natural materials are mirrored in my Geological Collection.

Techniques
We use both wax carving and casting, and traditional silver-smithing techniques to create our rings and pendants. Every item is hand finished with care and attention, resulting in extremely high quality pieces which are designed to last a lifetime.

Each piece we make is sent to Birmingham's Assay office where it is tested for authenticity, and then stamped with three Hallmarks: 925 (confirming its' silver content) The anchor Hallmark (confirming it was tested at Birmingham's Assay office) and our makers mark - In this case BC (which is the initials of Bryony Criddle, our jeweller)

Custom Design
If you like our style of making, by can't quite see what you're looking for, then please get in touch. We love making custom pieces unique to our customers and can offer design advice and ideas, or create a piece based on your own ideas. You can browse our Custom Design page to have a look at some of the pieces we have made for our customers. Contact us at info [!at] thenineofhearts.co.uk and we can make your idea real.
(please head over to www.thenineofhearts.co.uk for examples of my custom design and the stories behind them!)

Timescales
I do carry many pieces in stock which means they can be shipped immediately or after resizing, so please message me for more information on specific pieces, as the chances are they can be shipped out sooner rather than later (which is great for last minute gifts!)

I am always introducing new items into my range, so give my shop a follow to keep up to date with these. I can also be found on:

Frequently asked questions
How long will it take to receive my order?

The majority of items I have in stock ready to ship immediately.
If i have a ring in stock that I need to alter to your size, then this will take a few days to do so and then ship out to you.
If you take a look at the individual product listings, it states when everything is ready to ship, but if you have any questions then please just drop me a message and i'll be happy to help.

For bespoke orders, this normally takes around 4-5 weeks from order until I can ship this out to you. Timescales will be agreed on an individual basis prior to any payment being taken.

Which service is used to post my order?

I use Royal Mail Signed for services to post orders to the UK to ensure the safe delivery of your item. This should take between 1-4 days to get delivered to you.

For international orders I use Royal Mail International Tracked and Signed, which is a trackable service.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Items are posted in a velveteen gift bag, inside a box made from recycled materials inside a Jiffy bag. The upmost effort goes into the safe delivery of your item.

Bespoke Orders (Pieces created unique to you)

If you have an idea for a bespoke order (a completely new piece designed and made especially for you) please hit the 'Request Custom Order' Button, or send me a message. I will always be honest and realistic with what I can design and make for you, and can offer ideas if you need assistance (you can take a look at my custom orders on my website www.thenineofhearts.co.uk.

The design and timescales of custom orders are agreed prior to payment (the average time is around 4 weeks between order placement and your piece being shipped)

I cannot accept any returns for bespoke orders.

Faulty Goods

Faulty Goods - My handmade products are quality assured, but if for any reason you are not happy with a product due to a genuine fault, please contact me as soon as possible so the issue can be resolved efficiently.

Rings Ordered to Size

All of my items are handmade and not mass produced, and all rings ordered to size (where you have chosen your size from a drop down menu) are custom made to order in the size you have selected. Because of this, these orders will NOT be accepted for return or refund. PLEASE therefore ensure that you have chosen the correct size before ordering. If you are unsure of your ring size, any local jeweller or jewellery store will be able to check this for you. With all ring orders I will do one free resize of the original item I have made for you but you will be responsible for the return postage to and from me. Any subsequent resizing will be charged at £30 + return postage to and from me.

Unwanted Goods

Unwanted Goods - For pieces bought online which are one off pieces which I have not custom sized for you (i.e where the size is stated in the product listing and you have no choice of size) you have 14 days from date of receipt of goods to return the unwanted goods for exchange or refund. This must include all original packaging and parts and please do let me know if you wish to return and the reason within 5 days of receipt so that I can resolve as efficiently as possible. Please note this DOES NOTE THIS EXCLUDES CUSTOM/BESPOKE DESIGNS OR WHERE "RING SIZING" POLICY ABOVE APPLIES.

Purchases in Person (at a craft market etc)

In Person Purchases - For any pieces bought in person (at a market or event) where a customer has tried on the piece and is satisfied it is a good fit and they are happy, I am happy to offer an exchange but cannot offer a refund. This is because it is impossible for me to tell if a piece has been worn after purchase. I will inform you at the time of purchase if an item is bought in person that the sale is exchange only. Pieces bought as a gift will be offered a gift receipt where if the person in receipt of the gift does not like a piece or it does not fit correctly, I can offer an exchange or refund. When buying a piece as a gift, please do take the time to consider if it will suit or fit the receiver prior to purchase.
