Welcome to the ocdopus! I'm very glad and grateful that you're here. Perhaps you or someone you love suffer from OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. So do I.

My name is Elise, I am a young woman who has been living with OCD since I was at least 9 years old. It took ten years for me to receive that official diagnosis. This long gap between when the disorder starts and when you are diagnosed is very common for OCD, and for many, it may take even longer. Proper treatment is another hurdle altogether.

The general population is told a story about what OCD is. That story often involves a lot of color coding, organization, and frankly, a lot of misrepresentation. The problem with this misinformation runs much deeper than just the annoyance of correcting people, it keeps people from getting treatment because they don't realize what they have is OCD. Like any illness that is left untreated, it can do some pretty severe damage to your quality of life, it can even be life-threatening.

Since you're here, we can do something about it. These items spread awareness of what OCD really is to the public. It is a fun and fashionable way to set the record straight!

So again, thank you so much for being here and helping me change what the public thinks OCD really is.
