I’m DeeDee. I’m the owner and sole designer and curator behind The Pattypan Shop. My shop was named for my Grandmother’s favorite type of squash which she grew in her garden. Her Singer Sewing Machine was my first introduction to a machine sewing.

My most treasured memories are those of my mom and grandmother sewing. My grandmother created the most beautiful quilts that were used on our beds. I remember looking at each piece of fabric that she used and was amazed by the designs she made, without any patterns or special tools! My mother would make clothes for use with a pattern. She would study the photos and make her own patterns. She taught my sister and me how to sew. She would always say ‘Just because it’s homemade, doesn’t mean it has to look homemade’.

I’ve been sewing as long as I can remember, first, hand sewing my doll clothes then using my grandmother’s machine when she wasn’t looking!!! I’ve always had a passion for sewing. During our summer breaks, my mom would take my sister and I to the fabric store to get fabrics and patterns to keep us occupied during our time off from school. I loved that!! My husband even gave me a sewing machine as a wedding gift because he appreciated my sewing abilities!!!

I opened by Etsy shop out of my love of sewing. Etsy has provided me with a wonderful outlet for my designs!!! Each item is handmade by me. I even make my own labels!!!
