Announcement   Delicate jewelry hand-painted with trompe l'oeil pearls and jewel-like miniatures by artist Anna Wakitsch.

Hello and thank you for visiting my Etsy shop! I am a classically trained fine artist and I love to paint pearls. My tiny trompe l'oeil ("fool the eye") paintings of individual gemstones are delicately painted with oil color on extra fine portrait linen canvas or specially prepared paper, and then set as gems in classic jewelry pieces such as pendants and earrings.

The necklace is absolutely beautiful and it shipped out so quickly! Made the perfect thank-you gift for my sister-in-law. She just loves it!

About

Creating Pearls with Paint!

The story of my jewelry shop begins in 2008. I was studying and teaching fine art at The Ryder Studio, an atelier in Santa Fe, and working on a series of paintings with the theme of pearls. These were highly detailed representational works in oil done from life-- portrait, still life, and figure paintings. They all included pearls or pearly objects in the subject matter, and as a side project I started painting studies of individual pearls. Friends and family began to suggest that I create jewelry with my smallest pearl studies. The idea percolated for a few years while I worked on my gallery paintings.

In 2012, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Holland and see the works of the old Dutch masters-- including my favorite artist Johannes Vermeer, who painted the masterpiece "Girl with a Pearl Earring". After seeing and studying this painting in person, I was inspired to revisit the idea of painting jewelry. Later that year, I created and sold my first trompe l'oeil pearl pendants. I have fallen in love with making them and dreaming up new designs!

Each pearl painting is unique and my original work, painted with the same care, methods and materials that I use in my gallery paintings. All my work involves close observation from nature in order to capture the feeling of color and light. I’ve also done extensive research into the structure of pearls and their optical effects, so that when I find myself gazing into the mysterious depths of a glowing and iridescent pearl, I now understand a little better what I’m looking at and how to paint it.
