Cats And Furniture Do Not Mix.

In 2009 I contracted Lyme disease but what I didn't know was how much it would impact my life. I was not only very ill, I was also losing everything I had worked for and counted on over a lifetime. For months, I was virtually paralyzed and all I could do was think. Think about the loss, the pain, both emotional and physical, and think about being 55 years old and unemployed.

My world became pretty limited and I learned that solitude is not something to be feared if you can just sit with it. The opportunity for new ideas and a better understanding of life will eventually reveal itself. With nothing but time on my hands, my mind kept going back to "how am I going to support myself".

While incapacitated, I watched my kitties scratching my furniture day in and day out. I've volunteered at animal shelters in the past and remember how many kitties were surrendered simply because of scratching furniture. I don't want my kitties scratching my furniture either, but, I would never consider giving them up because of it. Since my mind was the only part of me that was active, sort of, I set it to the task of figuring out a new way to protect furniture from cat scratching.

I knew I had to look at it from a different approach. I've tried everything you have to redirect my cats from my furniture. Despite how many different scratchers I'd buy, they would always continue to pick at the furniture. It suddenly seemed to make more sense to me that instead of trying to stop them from scratching, put something ON the furniture they CAN scratch. Many trials and failures later, I've found the materials and the design that works. My goals for the product were that it would be effective (of course), machine washable and attractive if possible. You will find all three of these characteristics of my arm covers.

I'm proud of the product I've created and feel confident selling it to you. If it keeps more kitties out shelters or eliminates declawing then my mission is a success. My kitties helped pull me through the darkest days of my illness. They inspired and motivated me and.....gave me lots of love >^..^<

I am a life long cat lover and advocate for feral cats in the Concord, NH region. I've spent many years rescuing stray cats and kittens and fostering until they can be adopted. I hope everyone will help when they see an animal in need.

Measure your furniture arm at the widest point on the front surface to determine width. If a round arm, measure across the widest point of the round portion. Choose left or right by facing your couch/chair, not by sitting on it.

The materials are all machine washable. Can be machine dried or air dried.

Leather or naugahide is a challenge. Because it is a slippery surface, even with extra tuckable fabric, the covers will slide. Rubber webbing used under area rugs can be placed underneath the covers to help stabilize them.

The materials used are thick fleece or cotton pre-quilted fabric, indoor/outdoor carpeting (made in NH of recycled materials) and cotton batting. I cannot guarantee 100% protection, however, since I began using them with my own cats, the couch fabric has not been damaged further. What I have noticed is the cat's don't dig their claws in deep enough to penetrate the combination and seem to be happy just to drag their claws across the surface.

The goal is not to deter or to attract, but to provide them an appropriate scratching surface on the couch or chair. The covers are large enough to provide plenty of scratch-able surface area and cats are naturally attracted to the carpet material. The inside portion of the cover is tucked in between cushion and arm to anchor it in place.

Unlike other scratching posts, this product is not designed as a way for cats to scratch to trim their claws. I strongly encourage keeping nails trimmed and when they do scratch on the arm covers, they should not be able to dig deeply.

Thank you for purchasing my product,
