About

Welcome to The Rag and Bone! Did you hear? We have a new sister store!

First, the story of The Rag and Bone -

Rewind 20 years and we have a girl who loves everything vintage so she decides to open a store. That's me, Shelley. I opened my brick-and-mortar store called The Rag and Bone in 1995, in State College, Pennsylvania. Being in a college town, I focused on the '60s, '70s, and '80s with the college student in mind. In 2009, I ventured into the world of selling online and opened my Rag and Bone Etsy store. By 2012, I decided to close my State College store and sell online full time.

Fast forward a few years and meet Steele Hollow Vintage -

Since closing my storefront, I've run my vintage business out of my home on Steele Hollow Road. I've found my vintage affections leaning more toward older vintage - classic styles, finer details, high quality. I thought this might be a good time to open a second shop devoted to such treasures. And why not name it after my little patch of the world where all the magic happens?

Take a peek over at Steele Hollow Vintage and see what you think! If you like what you see, favorite our new shop and check in often as we will be listing new items daily!

Shipping
Prompt shipping is a priority for me.
I ship daily, Monday through Friday, every week.

Domestic purchases are shipped via USPS Priority Mail or First Class Mail.
Packages typically arrive within 1-4 business days.

I ship internationally via USPS First Class International Mail.
Please allow 3-6 weeks for delivery.

International customers are responsible for all VAT, customs fees, and taxes imposed by your country. They are not included in the shipping charge and are not refunded if an item is returned. Following US customs law and Etsy guidelines, I will not reduce merchandise values or mark as "gift" on customs forms. All packages are marked secondhand merchandise with actual value declared.

Insurance is recommended - please notify me prior to making payment if you would like to add insurance to your shipping cost.
The Rag and Bone is not responsible for packages lost after shipment. All domestic packages are shipped with a tracking number and international packages will have a proof of mailing customs declaration number upon request.

If the amount of my shipping estimate exceeds the actual shipping by more than $2.00, I will promptly refund you the difference.

I am always more than happy to combine shipping for multiple purchases or adjust shipping costs prior to payment for expedited shipping upon request.
Refunds and Exchanges
All sales are considered final for SALE items.

I aim to be very clear relating measurements, details and condition, but please keep in mind the secondhand nature of vintage items and the possibility of imperfections and atypical sizing. I have a very detailed size and measurement section below that I encourage you to review to ensure a good fit before making your purchase. If you have any questions about size, color, or other details, don't hesitate to contact me. I will be happy to give you more information.

If you feel an item has been misrepresented or you have any other questions about returns, please contact me with your concerns and I will do my best to work with you to find the best solution.
Additional policies and FAQs
SIZE AND MEASUREMENT INFORMATION -

When measuring clothing, each item is measured with a tape measure
laid flat:
- Bust is measured across from underarm to underarm.
- Waist is measured across the narrowest mid section of a dress at the natural waistline, usually on the waist seam or across the waistband on a skirt.
- Hips are measured across the fullest part of the mid section, 9" below the waist.
- Length is measured from the top of the shoulder between the collar and shoulder seam, down to the bottom of the garment.
- Sleeve is measured from the top of the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve or cuff, on the top side of the sleeve.

When measuring yourself using a tape measure, do so with undergarments on but clothing off:
- Measure your bust under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
- Measure your waist around your natural waistline, keeping tape a bit loose.
- Measure your hips around the fullest part of your body at the top of your leg.
- For desired length, measure from the spot between your neck and shoulder down to the point you would like the garment to end.

Another suggestion is to compare my measurements with the measurements of a similar garment that you already own and fits you well.

When measuring shoes:
- For length, a measuring tape is fed inside to the end of the toe of the shoe, run up the center of insole, and back to the inside end of the heel.
- For width, a measuring tape is run inside at the widest part of the shoe (generally the ball of the foot) and across to other side.
- For heel, the shoe is placed on a flat surface standing up and the tape is pulled tight to measure from surface up to seam where heel meets shoe.

For best results, measure a similar style of shoe you already have to compare measurements, especially for width as vintage shoes often run narrow.

FINAL NOTES -

All clothing will arrive to you cleaned and ready to wear. Please keep in mind that due to the nature of vintage items having been previously loved, there may be some imperfections.
I do my very best to carefully look over each item I present for sale. I do repairs when needed. If an item has a small flaw that cannot be fixed due to age or use, I will be sure to describe those in my descriptions. Additional pictures can be provided upon request.
