About

I just love dyeing!

Like many people I was taught to knit and sew by my Mum when I was very young. I started sewing my own dresses from the age of about 14, and even made my own wedding dress. When I was expecting my first baby 30 years ago, I made and finished a patchwork pram quilt. My love of colour was born, and I spent all my time sewing and knitting clothes for them and myself.

When my children started full time school, I started a City & Guilds Embroidery course which changed my life. I learnt so many wonderful techniques, and was allowed to experiment with colour, texture, stitch, fabric, thread, and anything I could lay my hands on.

Then I learnt to dye, and the rest is history!

For my final piece, I wanted to dye all the fabrics and threads I needed to make a textile book. I was obsessed. I just loved mixing colours in a tray, and discovering the outcome several hours later. A piece of white cloth can become a rainbow of vibrant colours, or a very subtle combination of quiet neutral shades. I discovered that different fibres and textured threads can result in different colours when in the same dyebath My background as a scientist helped me with all the experimenting, and I loved it!

When the course finished, I was left with plenty of leftover fabric and threads. I heard of Etsy, and decided to see if anyone would buy some of my mounting stash. Amazingly, I actually sold a few embroidery threads and fat quarters of fabric. Now I had to start dyeing some more, specifically to sell. Then I had a wonderful repeat customer from the UK, who asked me if I could dye some threads for her in specific colours. I had my first custom order. Wow!!

I took early retirement when my youngest son graduated from university, and became self employed as an Etsy seller. As time went by, I became more confident in my own abilities as a dyer and shop curator, so decided to offer a larger variety of items for sale. By offering a one stop shop for all of these textile supplies, I hope to gain more customers as well as retain my regular repeat buyers.

I always wanted to work with textiles, and now I do. Thank you Etsy!

I'm from the UK,and learnt to dye my own fabric and threads about 15 years ago, when studying for my City & Guilds Diploma in Embroidery. I loved it so much, that I couldn't stop. I'm obsessed with colour!

Welcome to my shop of unique hand dyed textile supplies. I love using my colourful hand dyed fabrics and embroidery threads for my own textile art, and hope you will enjoy them too!
Everything in my shop is hand dyed by me, and is totally unique. I dye in small batches, which are impossible to repeat exactly, and enjoy the outcome of unusual colour combinations.
